WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY

/

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, and to mark the date, we have created a Message of Hope Tree in the Memory Garden at Brunton Park.

The messages of hope, encouragement, and positivity have been collected from staff and supporters to remind people that they are not alone.

Brunton Park played host to the Baton of Hope on Sunday, serving as a reminder to those struggling in our local community that there is hope and support available.

Cumbria has the highest death by suicide rate in England and Wales, 55% above the national average, so it is vital that we recognise this day.

Teresa Mulholland, EDI Lead for the Club and Community Sports Trust said: “We were extremely proud to be part of the Baton of Hope event on Sunday. Staff, fans, baton bearers, and attendees at our event on Sunday left messages of hope and affirmation, and these have now been laminated and hung on the tree in our Memory Garden.

“I will be continuing to work with Baton of Hope Cumbria leads Lisa and Jonny Birshall, to look at the next steps for the baton bearers and community mental health initiatives that we can support as a football club and Community Sports Trust.

“The event on Sunday has been a great step in breaking the stigma around suicide, and we are here to support all involved to continue this great legacy.”
