JACK ELLIS SPEAKS ON PRE-SEASON VICTORY

.

Following this afternoon's win against Harrogate Town in pre-season, we spoke to Jack Ellis.

Speaking to CUTV after playing midfield in the 2-0 victory against the Sulphurites, he said: "It's something that I spoke to the staff about.

"We spoke about it in Wales, about trying me there, just in training, and I enjoyed it in there. I think I did quite well, so I think they just thought to try me in there today.

"It was a very good team performance. We showed really good energy levels, and we were clinical when we had to be."

On partnering Callum Whelan in the centre of the pitch, he said: "He's an experienced player, and he's a really good guy.

"He's been helping me, talking to me a lot the last couple of days about it. Yeah, it was quite easy to slot in next to him."

Jack picked up an assist in the first half, reacting quickest to a loose ball to find Regan Linney, who fired past Harrogate's James Belshaw for the Blues' opener.

"I got a couple towards the end of last season. I think when you just get one, you get another, you just want more and more.

"Especially when you've got someone like Regan coming in off the left, he's a natural goal scorer, so yeah, it was good."

The 21-year-old has shown versatility throughout his United career, continuing into pre-season, playing across the backline before going into midfield, which could aid the Blues going into the 2025/26 campaign.

"We know it's going to be a tough season.

"There's going to be some horrible games where we need players who can play in different positions, and when it gets to December, January time, when it's cold and there might be a few injuries, we need people to be versatile, so yeah, I'm happy to be there and play wherever."

Speaking on pre-season so far, he said: "It's been tough, probably my toughest one here, but I think that's a good thing. I think we're getting fitter and fitter every day.

"There's been some tough days, some tough sessions, but it's a really good group this year, and hopefully we can win a lot of games this year together."

And on the summer's new arrivals, he said: "They're all top lads. We've got some lads who are moving into the house with us, which is good, but yeah, they're all professional.

"They want to come in, work hard and win games, so it's been good."

Jack's aims for the team and himself for the coming season were clear, he said: "To get promoted, but just play as many games as I can, contribute hopefully, some goals, assists again, but the main one is just promoted straight back up, and then I'll go for that.

"A second clean sheet in three matches, and of course, Regan and Luke on the score sheet again, really pleasing signs with the season starting in a couple of weeks.

"I think it's good to get those really good habits, strikers scoring goals, defenders keeping clean sheets, we want to continue that into the season, give the fans something to cheer about."

Finally, he gave a message to the 300-strong travelling Blues: "It's so good, thank you so much.

"We tried to put on a decent performance for them today and for ourselves, and hopefully we can continue that going into the season, have a really good start, and we'll just go from there, so thank you very much."
