Harvey Macadam spoke of his delight after the signing of a one-year contract extension with Carlisle United, which will see him remain in Cumbria until 2028.
The 25-year-old midfielder became a mainstay in the Blues engine room following his move from Morecambe last summer, featuring on 44 occasions as United finished on 95 points, falling short in the Enterprise National League play-off semi-final against Boreham Wood.
A reliable partnership with Alex Gilliead saw Macadam grow into an ever-reliable option for the Blues in central areas, becoming as adept at crashing the opposition penalty area as well as protecting the back four during an enjoyable first campaign, meaning penning a new deal was a no-brainer for him.
He said: "I really enjoyed my first year at the club, so there was no reason for me to not extend.
"The club said over the summer they wanted to extend it, and I had a really good time last year, really enjoyed the lads being out there on a Saturday and a Tuesday night fighting for the three points for this club, so there was no reason why I wouldn't want to extend.
“I really enjoy it. We stay up a couple of nights a week living in the city, being around the city; it's Carlisle United mad, so I really enjoy living in the city and coming in every day and working with this club."
Macadam, along with the rest of the United squad, has had to deal with a period of change over the summer, seeing Rob Elliot coming in as the new Head Coach.
This has meant a new style of play and a new role for the midfielder, which has been set out in positive conversations with Elliot.
Macadam explained: "I had a good conversation with him over the summer, how he sees me playing in the team this year, and I think it's really going to suit me and my attributes, so it should be a good year.
"It's been good working a lot on different tactics and different formations, a different style of play to what it was last year, so [the] lads and myself [are] getting used to that, it's been good."
And on his new role: "I think maybe a little bit further forward than what I was last year, a different formation, different style, but I can adapt to different positions."
A stellar campaign last time out saw Macadam find the net seven times, and he is looking to use last season's play-off defeat as extra motivation to help the Blues go one step further this time around.
He said: "We had a really good season, finishing on 95 points, a bitter end to it, losing in the play-offs; we're just using that as fuel to try and get one step further this time."
