Georgie Kelly believes Carlisle United are close to turning strong performances into wins after the 2-2 draw at home to Southend United.
Kelly felt United controlled large parts of the game and created enough opportunities to take all three points, but admitted the players need to be more clinical in the key moments.
He said: "I don’t really know how we didn’t win, but I also don’t know how we nearly lost it. It was a strange game.
"We should probably have been two or three up in the first half, and we had chances in the second half as well.
"We controlled the game for the majority of it. I thought we were the better team, but we need to start turning these performances into wins."
The forward also praised the character within the group after the Blues fought back late on.
"It would have been very easy to drop our heads, especially when we’d been so dominant.
"It shows there’s fight and character in the dressing room, but we need to start putting these games to bed."
Kelly feels the biggest improvements now need to come in the finer details at the top end of the pitch.
"For me, it’s not about trying harder or forcing things; it’s about having a bit more poise in the final third.
"The detail and instructions we’re getting are spot on. We’re dominating games and controlling games.
"It’s just that last little bit now and, as players, we need to take responsibility for that."
On his own performances, Kelly believes there is still plenty more to come.
"I’m still learning exactly what’s needed from me, and I know I can be better, and I still feel like I haven’t shown exactly how good I can be.
"There are so many opportunities in this team and so many goals there for us.
"We just need players to step up, keep working and take those chances."
With another home game coming quickly on Tuesday night against Forest Green Rovers, Kelly says the focus will immediately turn to recovery.
"We recover quickly, look at what we can improve and go again.
"The competition in the squad is strong and we’ll be ready for Tuesday."
