After a goalless draw against Gateshead at Brunton Park, we caught up with Head Coach Mark Hughes.
Speaking with CUTV, he discussed the good performance, the difficult conditions and moving on quickly to Morecambe.
Here is everything we learnt:
1. A strong showing
“We could have won comfortably with the amount of play we had and the chances created.
“Their 'keeper looked a good 'keeper today, made some good saves to keep us out.”
2. Dealing with the conditions
“The conditions didn't help.
“The wind was changing direction all afternoon, so it was difficult to have the progressive play that we would normally have, but I thought the lads stuck at it.”
3. Not breaking the deadlock
“Sometimes you just must acknowledge that today wasn't going to be our day in terms of winning the game.
“Their goalkeeper has saved them on several occasions.”
4. Defensive quality
“Restricted them to very few opportunities.
“They weren’t able to sustain any sort of pressure on our goal.”
5. Injury updates
“Chris (Conn-Clarke) has an issue with his knee which has unfortunately flared, so we had to change things.
“With the quick turnaround, we’ve had to protect players.”
6. Ephraim Yeboah’s home debut
“He’s (Yeboah) got massive potential; we’re pleased he’s here.
“He’s a good option for me, and I’m sure he’ll want to get involved more next time.”
7. Charlie Wyke’s cameo
“We wanted his experience on today; he’s certainly got that.
“We felt we were lacking that (experience).”
8. Small margins
“I thought they could see (fans) that we were very much the dominant team today, creating chances, we just needed that one goal."
9. Looking towards Morecambe
“They’ve (Morecambe) obviously had a great result [against Rochdale].”
“We’re looking forward to it; we will be ready for it.
10. Brilliant support on the road
“Good crowd, really impressive crowd.
“Hopefully, we can repay them [on Monday].”
