Head Coach Rob Elliot says he is pleased that his side picked up their first win of the season but acknowledges that there is still room for improvement as United beat Hornhurch at Brunton Park.
The Blues picked up a crucial victory against the National League newcomers with goals from Miguel Azeez, Regan Linney and a brace from Harvey Bunker.
Elliot believes that it is crucial that United build momentum going forward after a crucial victory on Saturday afternoon.
He said, “We need to make sure that keep the momentum from today and understand what got us this victory.
“It’s about changing the tide and building momentum again, but I’m pleased that we won today.”
Despite scoring four spectacular goals at Brunton Park, the head coach still believes that the team have new levels to reach and areas to improve upon.
“I think there was a lot we could have been better; the ironic thing is that I thought our performance was leaner against Worthing.
“The only criticism I have today is that we should have scored more than we did, at half-time the game should have been done.
“But having said that I’m still delighted that we won, the lads needed that.”
Miguel Azeez opened the scoring against Hornchurch, with an excellent effort from the edge of the box and Elliot has been extremely impressed since he joined the club in the summer.
“He's an extremely talented boy, I don’t think there’s any limits on Miguel’s (Azzez) ability.
“His mindset’s superb, we played him a little bit deeper today because we knew it would be congested.
“For him to put the ball into the top corner like that just shows that little bit of special something that he’s got.”
Adam Desbois made his home debut at Brunton Park and pulled off several superb saves, as a former goalkeeper, Elliot believes that he will play a crucial role for the club going forward.
“He’s a goalkeeper for massive moments, and he was excellent for us today.
“I think that the save he made in the second-half was more impressive than the one in the first-half because it was at point blank range.
“He’s going to be huge for us, like all the lads here.”
Bunker has scored three goals in his first three games for the club in the Enterprise National League, and he is a player with a huge ceiling according to his head coach.
“He was incredible and he’s got a knack for that (box-crashing), he’s got three goals and two assists in three games.
“The talent that he has is unmatched, he’s got the physicality of a player three or four leagues higher.
“His desire and work rate is incredible.”
Club captain Morgan Feeney was back in the squad for the first time this season after recovering from injury, and Elliot expressed how important his return is to the team.
“He’s been a real leader in difficult times, and he’s obviously helped steer the club through successful times as well.
“He knows this place inside-and-out, I don’t think I’ve ever had a better captain.
“It’s great to see Morgan (Feeney) back, the levels in training have been even better since he’s come back.”
