Harvey Bunker’s brace helped Carlisle United pick up their first league win of the season as they beat Hornchurch 4-1, and he believes this result could be a springboard going forward.
Bunker has made a positive first impression at United, picking up 3 goals and 2 assists in his first month at the club.
Having failed to win in his opening two games, he believes that the team need to build on today’s victory and push for more success.
He said: “It was a great day, and I can’t be much happier, overall, it was a really good performance.
“We we’re solid in defence and we created a lot of chances in the final third.
“We’ve been dying to get the three points and today was the perfect day for us, we’re going to build on this.”
Having played in a deeper position against Worthing and Yeovil, Bunker was played further forwards today and thinks that it’s a position that suits his style of play perfectly.
“The gaffer spoke to me during the week and talked about playing the 8-10 role, which is why I got my goals today because I was further forward.
“I like to get a goal when I can and it’s a nice role for me to play in.
“You can’t beat the feeling of scoring a goal.”
United have a busy week, playing both Wealdstone and Scunthorpe within 3 days of each other, but the midfielder is relishing the challenge.
“We've got two games in three or four days, but the main thing is that we try get six points.
“We’re going down to Wealdstone to have a good performance and to pick up the three points we need.
“We need to really kick on now.”
With a crucial first victory of the season, Bunker has praised fans for their support since he came to the club and says that they deserved to see the team win.
“The fans have been great, obviously losing the first game here was frustrating for them and today they were brilliant again.
“It’s just nice to play in front of the crowd, it’s a great feeling.”
