Whilst the Blues extended their unbeaten streak to nine games, they failed to make it four wins on the spin as a 10,000-strong crowd saw United held 1-1 by Eastleigh.
Mark Hughes spoke to CUTV following the stalemate.
Here’s everything we learnt:
1. One of Those Days
“We're disappointed at the end because we conceded late on and did more than enough to win the game.
“We created loads of chances, 25 shots or so and lots of attempts on goal directly. So you know, on another day that would have been enough to win the game comfortably, but we were only able to get one between the sticks.”
2. Unbeaten Run Continues
“We weren't beaten. I think we have to remind ourselves that we're on a nine-game unbeaten run and that hasn't happened for a long time.
“We're disappointed, the last two games we got four points and probably would have felt that was a good return from the games that we've played. We've probably done it the different way around that we anticipated.”
3. Positives to Take
“I'm more than happy with the performance. I thought we created more than enough opportunities to win that game two or three times over.
“But in the end, just a period, just a short piece of the game, we haven't quite got it right, and consecutive errors lead to goals unfortunately, and that's what happened.”
4. Keeping Momentum
“I don't think anything was missing. I think arguably it was one of our better performances.
“We created enough chances, like I said, we didn't convert as many as we should have done. But performance-wise, more than a match for a lot of the games that we played in this nine-game run.”
5. Luamba Scores Again
“He's scoring goals, which is important for him; it's good for his confidence.
“He will tell you himself at times he'll make wrong decisions in games, but for the most part today I thought he did okay, got his goal, and that's going to help his confidence.”
“The more goals he scores, the more confident he'll be as a player.”
6. Link-up Down the Right
I thought they played well on that right-hand side, Josh Williams especially. I thought he played really well, gives us a little bit more pace at the back.
“So overall, both of them can be pleased with the performance as many other players can, it's just unfortunate we haven't taken the three points which the performance deserved.”
7. Bossing the Midfield
“They've (Macadam and Gilliead) got good experience in there and good presence.
“I think it's a good combination at the moment, like I said, they've got good technical ability and physically they're big guys as well, so it takes something to get the better of them.”
8. Armstrong almost at the Death
“It's unfortunate, I've seen it back, and you wonder. I think the ball actually went through the keeper's legs, and you think, well, it has to go and nestle in the net.
“It wasn't to be and was one of a number of chances that could have gone in, could have, would have, should have, but it's one of those days today.”
9. Looking Ahead to Boston
“I think if we play at this level against Boston, it'll be difficult for Boston to keep us at bay.
“I don't anticipate that we'll have as much of the play and not score more than one goal if that's the case, so if the game next weekend replicates what we've produced today, I fully expect to win.”
10. Mission 10k
“It's a shame we weren't able to see the game out to a conclusion [for the fans], but I think they can see the team's improving.
“It's a good team with good talent, and we created enough chances to win the game; unfortunately, we didn't.”
