Say NO to aggressive or abusive behaviour

Carlisle United Football Club is delighted that we have been awarded the EFL Code of Practice in recognition of the club’s success in providing an environment that is inclusive for all employees, supporters and volunteers alike.

The EFL’s Code of Practice represents a nationwide commitment by football clubs to improve equality and inclusion across all areas of the game. In the four years since its introduction, 63 EFL clubs, including United, have passed the nationally recognised assessment.

The EFL Code of Practice was devised as part of the game’s commitment to the English Football Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination Action Plan. It helps clubs to position themselves at the heart of each community by embedding the fundamental principles of inclusion and equality throughout the whole of the business, setting accountability at the highest level.

United’s chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: “Our aim is to be a successful football club that is a strong part of the community, open for everyone, and a club we can all take pride in. Key to that is working together to provide the best possible environment for all of our fans, staff and volunteers.

“We continue to ensure everyone has the opportunity to attend live football and fully enjoy the match day experiences which then create memories to last a lifetime. The Code of Practice helps us to do that.

“The staff put in an enormous amount of effort every day to achieve the high standards required and they deserve huge credit.”

Report it if you see it!

Remember, aggressive or abusive behaviour at football matches should NOT be tolerated. If you witness any behaviour of this type before, during or after a game – be it racist, homophobic, discriminatory or abusive in any way – please report it to the nearest steward or club official at the earliest opportunity.

Everyone attending or taking part in a football match has the right to feel safe, valued and included and we encourage supporters to continue to play their part in this.

If you witness racist behaviour at a match, or around a stadium, please report it to the police or a steward.

You can report discrimination to Kick It Out via their app, via email on report@kickitout.org, via their online reporting form here - https://www.kickitout.org/forms/online-reporting-form or via freephone on 0800 169 9414.

Not Today Or Any Day

Work is continuing with the Premier League and the Football Association to improve processes and procedures in place to address discrimination in stadiums, with commitments made to review how clubs sanction and educate offenders, tackle under-representation across all levels of the game and improve training provisions for stewards to ensure they are best equipped to recognise and respond to issues as they arise.

However, there is no room for complacency and the EFL and its clubs are reinforcing the collective approach to be taken under the header ‘Not today or any day’, if anyone experiences, or is subject to, discriminatory behaviour.

not today
The EFL recommends the following methods:

+ Report it to a steward or police officer. Reporting incidents early helps clubs to take immediate action.

+ Confidentially report it via the Kick It Out App, available on iPhone and Android.

+ Report it to Kick it Out via the links or methods shown above.

In addition, clubs, players, managers and officials have also been reminded of a matchday protocol introduced to domestic football ahead of the 2019/20 season, alongside The Football Association and the Premier League, in an attempt to ensure the matchday environment provides a positive experience for all.

The protocol is designed to ensure that incidents of abuse are effectively addressed, perpetrators are identified and dealt with, while at the same time make sure that the match is not unduly interrupted with a step by step guide mapped out to support participants take the right course of action in such a scenario.
