YOUTH MATCH REPORT: MORECAMBE 0-5 CARLISLE UNITED

.

Rampant United fire five past Morecambe as they sail into the next round of the FA Youth Cup.

Braces from Seb Mason and Reuben Towers, and a second half goal for Amaru Smith were enough for the young Blues on a blustery night in Lancashire.

The Cumbrians started the contest with an intensity that did not relent throughout the first period. Their fast start was rewarded when Seb Mason fired United ahead on 13 minutes. Mason’s burst to the front post left him enough room to swivel and convert Simon Rigby’s corner past Harry Ascroft.

Carlisle made sure to assert their dominance early in Lancashire, when Reuben Towers brushed his man aside to find space in the final third, he then made no mistake from inside the area, as he slotted the ball into the back of the net to double United’s advantage on 21 minutes.

Mason then notched his second of the evening just two minutes after Towers had put Carlisle two goals up. The Blues worked the ball with precision around the Morecambe defence until the ball found Mason in a pocket just outside the area, he turned, and his powerful effort flew into the top left corner to make United’s lead unassailable on 23 minutes.

Lewis Lambert’s endeavour opened up an opportunity for Mason to complete his hat-trick on 27 minutes, but his lofted effort did not trouble Ascroft in Morecambe’s goal.

Carlisle kept creating chances in the closing stages of the first half, Jonah Lowes went close for the Cumbrians on 35 minutes. His audacious chip from just outside the area, nearly caught out Ascroft in the Morecambe goal, but Lowes’ attempt crept just over the bar, much to the Morecambe keepers’ relief.

HALF-TIME: Morecambe 0-3 Carlisle United

The opening stages of the second period passed with little created from both sides. United looked comfortable with their three-goal lead, but weren’t threatening thescoreline in the opening minutes after the restart.

Towers added his second of the evening on 70 minutes to increase Carlisle’s advantage to four. The winger was slotted in behind the Morecambe backline, and he made no mistake to slot the ball into the back of the net.

A sensational display from the Blues was topped off on 75 minutes, when Amaru Smith got the goal that his play deserved. The ball found its way to Smith after neat play down the right-hand side from United, Amaru then latched onto a square pass from the newly introduced Tai Bell to convert with ease and send United through to the next round at a canter.
