MATCH REPORT: CARLISLE UNITED 3-0 HARROGATE

.

Carlisle United defied the odds to defeat Harrogate United 3-0 despite going down to nine men at Brunton Park.

Josh Williams, Callum Whelan, and Ryan Galvin were on the scoresheet to give United the three points, with Miguel Azeez and Harvey Bunker seeing red.

Head Coach Rob Elliot made three changes to his side, with Kenton Richardson, Azeez and David Ajiboye brought in to face the Sulphurites.

United flew into the lead when Josh Williams cut in from the left flank and curled an effort into the bottom corner.

Azeez looked to add another, receiving a free-kick on the edge of the box and driving a shot just wide of the target.

The Blues playmaker was then shown a straight red card by referee Jamie Robinson in the 15th minute for a firm tackle on Morgan Williams.

Ciaran McGuckin tested Adam Desbois from range, but it was straight at the Blues stopper, and he nodded a header wide soon after.

Brandon Dolaghan poked at goal after Ellis Taylor's cross had fallen to him in, but Desbois saved.

United were down to nine men after Robinson deemed him a Bunker challenge to be worthy of a straight red card in the 30th minute.

Luke Hutchinson had to be sharp to deny Morgan Feeney's looking header from Whelan's free-kick delivery.

A whipped Taylor cross was flicked towards goal by McCuckin, but Desbois held the effort before Morgan Williams fired a volley wide from the edge of the box.

HALF-TIME: Carlisle United 1-0 Harrogate Town

The Blues had a second in the 46nd minute with Josh Williams weaving his way into the penalty area and picking out Whelan who slotted past Hutchinson.

Harrogate looked to respond with Shawn McCoulsky heading a cross over from close range.

And the Blues had third in the 61st when Callum Camps sent Galvin through on the half-way line, seeing his initial shot saved by Hutchinson, but he tapped in the rebound.

The visitors missed a multitude of chances as well as being denied by steely United defending, bravely sealing a crucial victory.
