JONAH LOWES SIGNS PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT

,

Carlisle United are delighted to announce that midfielder Jonah Lowes has signed his first professional contract.

Lowes, 18, has signed a two-year contract following an impressive spell as a scholar at the club.

During that time, Jonah made his first team debut against Morecambe in the EFL Trophy in November 2024 and has since been involved with the senior squad on several occasions.

The midfielder initially joined National League North side Darlington on a one-month loan in February, with a series of strong performances earning him an extension through to the end of the 2025/26 season.

Head Coach Mark Hughes said: “He’s an energetic player who’s made a real impact at youth level and has been around the first team on a number of occasions. He really caught the eye during his loan spell at Darlington, and you can see the progress he’s making.

"It felt like the natural decision to offer him a professional contract and give him the platform to keep developing over the next couple of years."

Andy Lowe, United's Academy Manager added: “We’re delighted to see Jonah sign his first professional contract - it’s a really positive step and a reflection of the progress he has made in the Academy. This is a day Jonah and his family should be extremely proud of.

“He’s shown great application and maturity throughout his development, consistently working hard and embracing every challenge in training and around the first team environment.

“His loan spell and involvement with the senior squad have been valuable experiences, and he’s taken each opportunity in the right way.

“This is an important milestone in his journey, but also just the start. The key now is to keep pushing on and continuing his development as a professional player.

‘’A mention also to the Academy coaching department led by Mark Birch and the multidisciplinary team of staff that continue to develop our talented young players of the future."

Head of Football Operations, Marc Tierney continued: “We’re delighted to see Jonah sign his first professional contract. It is an important step in his development and a reward for the progress he has made over a sustained period.

“He has shown a strong attitude throughout his time in the Academy and when stepping into the first team environment, consistently applying himself and looking to improve.

“Our policy of providing young players with meaningful loan opportunities is proving vital in their progression, allowing them to gain valuable experience in competitive environments, and his loan spell has provided him with important experience in senior football and has played a key role in his growth, both in terms of performance and understanding of the game.

“We’re excited to see how he continues to adapt to the demands of the professional game and build on the foundations he has already put in place.”
