Carlisle United have unveiled a new Honours Board celebrating the club’s owners, managers, and major achievements throughout the years.
The board, now proudly displayed in the Brunton Park boardroom, was the brainchild of owners Tom and Patty Piatak, who took inspiration from similar displays they had seen during visits to other clubs.
Tom Piatak said: “There's so much history on the West Stand. There's so much history of the Jimmy Glass Bar, the 74-75 lounge. But on this side, we kind of kept the walls a little bit blank and we want to make sure that we're honouring history and the heritage.
“We also have room and space for the future of what's coming and we think some great things are coming.
“We invited the owners, former owners, chairmen, managers. Whatever happened during their journey as an owner, as a chairman, as a manager, there's been some highs, there's been some lows, but they're part of the history and they're going to always live in the history of Carlisle United.”
Former owner Michael Knighton and former managers Bobby Moncur, Chris Beech, and Roddy Collins joined club dignitaries ahead of the win against Tamworth to officially unveil the installation.
The group toured Brunton Park, taking in the many improvements made to the stadium since their time at the club. Roddy Collins paused in the tunnel to recount some memorable moments from his spell as manager.
The former United manager commented: “I couldn’t get here quick enough! It might be the most exciting football day, aside from managing in cup finals. It’s just brilliant!”
Knighton also reflected fondly on his tenure, noting that despite his experience at Manchester United, his most cherished football moment remains seeing his Blues team walk out on the hallowed turf of Wembley back in the 1994/5 season.
After laying a wreath in the club’s Memory Garden as a tribute to recently lost players Les O’Neill and Tommy Murray, Bobby shared his positive memories of Les. The pair played together at Newcastle United in their younger years.
During the tour, attention also turned to the Andrew Jenkins Stand, which Knighton opened in 1996. The boardroom and several hospitality suites were added to the stand last year following the Piataks’ arrival.
Chris Beech managed the team from 2019 to 2021 was also present to see his name included on the Honours Board.
He added: “I’m honoured. There are some great names and the club has got a great history. To be a part of that history, from a personal perspective it’s a great feeling. I’m very privileged to have managed the club and to be up there [on the board] with some legends of the game.”
