EVERYTHING WE LEARNT FROM GEORGIE KELLY: POST TAMWORTH (H)

.

Following his brace and Man of the Match performance, striker Georgie Kelly spoke to CUTV after Saturday afternoon’s victory.

Here’s everything we learnt:

1. Three points is all that matters

“It's important to get the win in those games that can be tough and difficult. We probably weren't at our best. We created a lot of chances and we shouldn't have conceded when we did. It kind of killed us a little bit at the end of the first half. [We] Let them back into it when they really shouldn't have been.

I had a couple of other chances in the first half. We could have been two or three up. In the end, when the games are in the balance like that, it's important to get the win.”

2. Patient play

“Once you do score, you can't give away a soft goal like that from them in terms of a set-piece.

As I said, it gives them a lifeline. Patience is important there, especially in the big pitch when we can pull and drag them around. We've done that better in the second half.”

3. Frustrating firstforty-five

“It can be difficult and frustrating at times. Before that, they hadn't had a chance. I wouldn't even call it a chance, like a half chance.

It goes in and kills you. It's just about stopping and limiting the opportunities for them.”

4. Back in the goals

“I was thinking, actually, I need one of them. It's been a while since I got a nice little tap-in like that. I'm delighted.

I probably had a better chance after Regan crossed when I got across. I don't know how I got a touch on it ahead of the defender. It was a good evening.”

5. Keeping composed

I've had loads of these spells in my career. It's important not to get too frustrated. I've gone through patches like this where you don't score in five or six games and then you score seven in the next three.

I know how unpredictable goals are. It's not binary. I try not to overthink it. It's also difficult with the types of players that we have. The wide players are a little bit different for me like Regan and Junior are dribblers. At times it can be difficult for me to read what the plan is or what's going on or the structure of our attack.

I feel like I'm getting a little bit better now and I'm trying to time off Regan's crosses and different things. Hopefully there'll be a few more now.”

6. Plaudits to Gabe Breeze

“That's what I mean about fine moments. I don't even know did Gabe even have a shot to save apart from the penalty? Probably not. Games like that you can lose very easily and drop points. It's important we showed a bit of character and dug it out.

I always back Gabe, he saved one against Port Vale at the end of last year. I back Gabe from penalties. He's a great shot stopper.”

7. The unbeaten run continues

“It's been great! At times it's been up and down. I know results have been good but at times performances haven't been amazing. Even there tonight, on another night you could lose that game.

While it seems we've been really consistent in having been unbeaten at home in ages, performances have been up and down. It's important we sort that out a little bit and become a little bit tidier and a little bit more controlled. Especially in games at home.”

8. Pressure to deliver

“I wouldn’t call it pressure really. Most of us lads have played up leagues in bigger games.

The Lads are well fit for that. It's just trickier on the elements and especially away games and tight pitches. It can be difficult for us but we just have to grind it out and keep going and get through this Christmas period.”

9. Platform for Blackpool

“It gives us a nice week to build now and have a good crack at them and see how we go. It's an exciting game.

[It’s] A big game for us. A local derby. We're all looking forward to
