Ahead of our home play-off semi-final against Boreham Wood at Brunton Park, we spoke to Morgan Feeney.
Looking ahead to Sunday’s fixture, Feeney reflected on excitement in the squad, the unity within the group, and the importance of the supporters.
Here’s everything we learnt:
1. Excitement in the camp
“Really excited, looking forward to it as I know everyone else will be.”
Feeney made clear the dressing room is full of anticipation ahead of a huge occasion at Brunton Park.
2. A long week building towards the moment
“It feels like it’s been a long week getting to here because it sort of drags when you’re looking forward to something.”
With an early kick-off adding to the anticipation, he admitted the squad is eager to get going after a full week of preparation.
3. A special feeling returning to Brunton Park
“It’s been brilliant… we’ve got a similar feeling this year as well.”
Feeney reflected on his return to the club, comparing the current squad’s mood to successful sides he has been part of previously.
4. Personal motivation for the play-offs
“Hopefully be involved on the weekend and then at Wembley… from a personal point of view I’m really excited.”
Having missed out through injury during a previous Wembley run, Feeney is determined to play his part - while stressing the club always comes first.
5. Strong unity within the squad
“There’s a really good group down there… we’ve got that camaraderie amongst us.”
He highlighted the togetherness in the squad, saying the positive environment has made the season fly by and will be a major asset in the play-offs.
6. A strong bond with the community
“The sense of community at this football club is special.”
Feeney praised the connection between players and supporters, particularly the passion shown by young fans around the club.
7. The importance of the Brunton Park atmosphere
“The fans certainly played their part… they shouldn’t underestimate their importance in big games.”
Referencing previous big occasions, he stressed how the home crowd can influence tight knockout matches.
8. Respect for Boreham Wood’s quality
“They’ve got some fantastic players… but so have we.”
Feeney acknowledged the threat posed by players such as Abdul Abdulmalik, Matt Rush, and Zak Brunt, but insisted the focus remains firmly on Carlisle’s own strengths.
9. Preparation on a familiar surface
“To have that consistent platform… can only help in preparation.”
Training on the Brunton Park pitch has helped the squad build familiarity ahead of Sunday’s decisive clash.
10. A message to the supporters
“Keep coming in your numbers… get behind the group and really spur us on.”
Feeney finished with a direct appeal to the fans, urging them to create the kind of atmosphere that can help drive the team towards a place in the final.
