ROB ELLIOT: "THERE WERE SOME EXCELLENT PERFORMANCES ALL ROUND"

Head Coach Rob Elliot was pleased that his side got back to winning ways after deservedly beating Scunthorpe United 4-2 at Brunton Park.

Goals from Miguel Azeez, Regan Linney, Josh Williams and Junior Luamba proved to be the difference as United moved into the top half of the Enterprise National League.

After their second win of the season, Elliot spoke to CUTV and was delighted with the contribution his entire squad made today.

“There were some excellent performances all round and I thought that the subs that came on gave us the energy we needed.

“Scunthorpe are very good, but we stood up to the challenge and played some good football,” he said.

The Blues have picked up four points over the bank holiday weekend, and Elliot is aware that it is crucial that they continue to build momentum and form.

“It’s been a long six or seven days, and I think that we’ve managed it really well today and that was really pleasing.

“To back it up with four points is excellent, some good goals and some really good energy,”

Azeez has now scored in back-to-back games at Brunton Park and his head coach has been so pleased with his quality since joining the club.

“He’s got huge quality and I thought he was excellent in the game today yet again.

“We’re asking a lot of Miggy (Azeez) out of possession because that’s where he can develop even more.

“He was superb against Wealdstone and was top today.”

One standout player today was Williams, who bagged his first ever career goal with an excellent left-footed, and Elliot has praised his work-ethic since coming back from injury over the summer.

“I’ve been really pleased with him; he obviously got injured in the off-season and he’s had to wait for his opportunity.

“It was a fantasic finish from him, and that’s what I’m going to demand from him because he’s got every attribute that you could ask for.

“He’s a serious player, but he’s got to continue getting the basics right,” he said.
