Ahead of the trip to Truro City in the Enterprise National League, we spoke to Mark Hughes.
Looking forward to the weekend’s fixture, Hughes reflected on recent form, squad updates and the importance of maintaining momentum in the final stages of the season.
Here is everything we learnt:
1. Building on a strong performance
“We were really pleased with how we performed at the weekend [against Sutton United].
“There were plenty of goals and a lot to be encouraged by.
“Our home form in particular has been very strong.”
2. Creating chances as a key strength
“We’ve been creating opportunities in every game.
“Maybe we could have scored even more in recent matches.
“But creating those chances gives you the platform to win games.”
3. Control and confidence in performances
“We’ve shown good control in games lately.
“That allows us to take games away from teams.
“It’s a really strong part of our play at the moment.”
4. Eyes on finishing unbeaten
“It would be great if we can stay unbeaten.
“But it won’t be easy with the teams we’re facing.
“Everyone wants to finish the season strongly.”
5. Perspective on a relentless season
“The teams above us have been incredible.
“We’ve kept close to them for large parts of the season.
“Now it’s about taking care of what we can control.”
6. Importance of securing third place
“The key this weekend is making sure we secure that third position.
“That allows us to plan properly for the play-offs.
“We’ve got the chance to do that now.”
7. Squad boost despite setbacks
“We’ve had players coming back into the side.
“That’s important at this stage of the season.
“We’ve been able to manage the loss of others with that.”
8. Adapting to a different travel schedule
“It’s a long trip, but the club has organised it well.
“We’ll fly down and prepare once we’re there.
“It’s different, but it won’t impact us too much.”
9. Staying focused against tricky opposition
“We won’t underestimate them at all.
“They’ll want to put on a show in their last home game.
“We’ve just got to make sure we perform well.”
10. Momentum and belief in the group
“We’re in a really good place at the moment.
“There’s a lot of confidence and momentum with us.
“When we’re playing like this, we’re very difficult to stop.”
