Ahead of the final day of the Enterprise National League regular season, we spoke to Mark Hughes.
Looking ahead to the visit of Brackley Town, Hughes discussed the victory in Cornwall last time out, players returning to fitness and continuing our strong home form this Saturday.
Here’s everything we learnt:
1. Importance of securing third place
"We wanted to obviously get third place secured and we were able to do that.
"It was a tricky fixture, we looked at their (Truro City) record beforehand and albeit they'd been relegated, their home form was very strong.
"We just had to go there, get the job done and that's what we were able to do."
2. Pleasing win
"I was reasonably happy with the first-half performance.
"I think second-half it became a little bit fragmented.
"We knew we were going to have to defend correctly and that's what we were able to do
"Then we were able to go up the other end and get the winner ourselves. So, yes very pleasing."
3. Winning for the travelling fans
"It was a great following obviously.
"We wanted to win the game for everybody who travelled on the day."
4. Positive squad developments
"That was another pleasing sign ahead of the play-offs [with Josh Williams starting and Luke Armstong coming off the bench].
"I've been trying to get guys up to speed. We'll look at that again at the weekend."
5. Focus on finishing the season unbeaten
"I talked a few weeks ago about wanting to finish the season unbeaten.
"I thought that was a realistic target for us and we're only one game away from that.
"It'd be nice to finish [the season] off with that."
6. Respecting Brackley ahead of Saturday
"All the teams down the bottom of the league have players that can hurt you.
"You've heard me say that many times but it still holds true.
"We will respect them as we do all of our opponents."
7. Play-offs shaping team selection
"The important thing from our point of view is about momentum.
"I'll look at that and make the changes that I think will enable us to be strong enough to win the game."
8. Consistency is key
"We just need a continuation in terms of that consistent level that we are able to do at the moment.
"There's other elements like the ebb and flow where sometimes we're good one week and not so good the next week so I'd like those levels to be as high as possible."
9. Continuing strong home form
"Our home form's been good.
"We've scored lots of goals at home.
"For the most part, I think everybody has enjoyed the season."
10. Thanking the supporters
"I think there's a little bit of an acknowledgment at the end of the game.
"We will have the opportunity to thank the fans to a greater extent.
"So, we are pleased about that."
