Following an important 3-2 victory over Scunthorpe United, we spoke to Mark Hughes.
Speaking to CUTV, he discussed the challenge Scunthorpe United posed, the quality of the goals, strong responses from individuals and the confidence the result brings ahead of another huge fixture.
Here is everything we learnt:
1. A huge three points against tough opposition
“They’ve gone to a lot of places and got really good results against teams in the playoff positions and the top teams as well, so it was a really good three points against a good team today.”
2. A vital win in a big week
“We needed a win tonight, and that’s what we’ve been able to do.”
3. Taking control in the second half
“I thought second half we took the game away from them and were able to see it out, not as comfortably as I would have thought, but we saw it through to its conclusion.”
4. Quality in all three goals
“I thought all the goals were good goals, you’ve got a sure desire and a sure commitment to get on the end of things.”
5. Elliot Embleton's technical threat
“Technically, we know what Embo’s (Elliot Embleton) got; it’s been difficult for him with injuries and setbacks, but his delivery will always cause problems for the opposition.”
6. David Ajiboye's response and two-goal performance
“He’s (David Ajiboye) come back, understood what he needed to do, trained exceptionally hard and deserved his chance again, and he’s taken it.”
7. Hugh Parker making an impact
“Hugh (Parker) came on to good effect, you can see what he’s got, he’s technically good, he’s a big guy as well, and he’ll put himself about, so that energy is something that we’ll use.”
8. Stephen Wearne's strong return
“He’s (Stephen Wearne) kept his head down, trained correctly, made himself available and taking chances when he gets them, and I thought he played really well today.”
9. Ryan Galvin’s character after a setback
“He’s (Ryan Galvin) obviously made a mistake that led to a goal, but he had to shrug that off very quickly and get on with it, and second half, I thought he came into his game a lot more.”
10. Confidence going into the next test
“We’re in good shape, we’re third in the league, and we’ll go to Forest Green and give them the game they know that.”
