Following our 3-2 home victory over Scunthorpe United, we spoke to two-goal hero David Ajiboye.
Speaking to CUTV, Ajiboye reflected on a big result in the promotion race, his brace at Brunton Park, and the momentum heading into a crucial weekend.
Here is everything we learnt:
1. A big three points
“Relieved. Obviously, we made it hard for ourselves at the end, conceding that goal, but we got the three points, so just buzzing.”
2. A crucial week
“We knew this week would be big. It was important to back up the loss at the weekend with a win today, which we've done.
“Now we just build on to Saturday.”
3. Two goals and Player of the Match
“It feels good, but I can’t get too excited. I just need to keep going, keep my head down and keep doing what I’m doing for the team.”
4. First goal instincts
“I saw it was Morgan [Feeney in the build-up to my first goal], and I know he’s got a great leap, so I just tried to get in front of my man and get a touch on it.
“A few of the boys are saying it’s not my goal, but it definitely was.”
5. Thriving in the team
“It’s nice. I knew I was capable of this, so it was just about waiting for the opportunity.
“I’m just happy that I’m doing it now.”
6. A special second goal
“It felt natural. I’ve been working on my left-foot, so I’m happy it’s paying off.
“That’s me at my best, and hopefully there’s more to come.”
7. Paying it back
“Paying the gaffer back, paying the fans back and showing what I can do.
“It’s always good to have the fans behind you.”
8. Confidence growing
“It just makes me want to keep doing it because it’s working.
“I just need to keep doing what I’ve been doing.”
9. Digging in at the end
“We’ve got a lot of boys that are good at that, especially Morgan. Even though it was nervy, I knew we’d see it out.”
10. Looking ahead
“Just the momentum. Three goals is good, but we need to shut up shop and not concede as many.
“That’s going to be important for this promotion push.”
