Following Carlisle United's 6-2 victory over Boston United, we spoke to Head Coach Mark Hughes.
Speaking to CUTV, he discussed his side’s second-half reaction, the quality of goals, individual performances and the importance of the win moving forward.
Here is everything we learned:
1. The belief to comeback
“I think everybody understood that we weren't playing poorly, and to be in a losing position, and I felt we had more than enough in that second half to cause them more problems.
"That's how it’s panned out, so we were able to get on the score sheet on numerous occasions, so in the end it was a comfortable win for us.”
2. The ruthless attacking play
“Some good goals, we benefit obviously from the sending off, but even so, I thought we were by far the better team today.
"It's always nice to capitalise on that and make that difference in terms of our performance in comparison. It's good to illustrate it with goals, obviously.”
3. Bouncing back from Tamworth
“Sometimes the roof falls in, and you have to deal with it and get on with it, and that's what we did that second-half, so I'm really pleased with the response.”
4. Luke Armstrong’s form
“Good return, I mean he's a great player for us, great energy, set the tone in fairness, I thought from the first minute.”
5. David Ajiboye’s brace
“He played very well, two great goals, deserved his goals, he's put a lot of work in on the training ground, in terms of cutting in and getting shots off with his left.”
6. Regan Linney’s confident penalty
“I think you need to enjoy the responsibility of taking penalties, and Regan certainly has that enjoyment of stepping up, being centre of attraction and then putting the ball in net and getting the reward for scoring.”
7. Ajiboye’s left foot
“He's put a lot of work in on the training ground, in terms of cutting in and getting shots off with his left, a lot of work with Gav (Gavin Skelton), and he's paying dividends now.”
8. Sharing the goals
“We're happy with the amount of goals that we scored, good to get any number of the players on the score sheet again, it's important for us to be dominant when we can, and we were able to do that today.”
9. A busy schedule
“Quick turnaround obviously, and I'm conscious that some of the guys probably need a rest, but it's difficult given the games and the significance of the games that we have, we have to be strong, but we'll see on Tuesday.”
10. Confidence going forward
“We're going to a good place once again, bounce back as we always do, and the manner of the victory was good as well, so that's good for confidence.”
