Before Carlisle United travelled to Lincolnshire to face Boston United, we spoke to Blues' midfielder Harvey Macadam.
Speaking to CUTV, he discussed Mission 10K, consistency on the pitch and playing alongside Alex Gilliead.
Here is everything we learnt.
1. Dominance Means Little Without a Finish
“For 80-85 minutes, we were the dominant team in terms of possession with loads of chances created. The last 5–10 minutes, we slipped up a little bit and gave them momentum, and they took it to be fair to them, so probably two points dropped to be honest.
“It’s frustrating, probably a bit of naivety. The chances we were creating weren’t leading to goals, and it was one of them days where you’ve just got to be sharp in the last five and try to see the game out.”
2. Frustration Fades Once the Work Begins Again
“It’s frustrating for a few hours after, maybe a day or so, but as soon as you get back in training and start looking forward to the next game, it goes quickly.”
3. Big Crowds Bring Big Energy
“It was brilliant. It made loads of noise for us, coming out in the numbers like that, so it was a joyful experience.”
4. A Goal Worthy of the Award
“I’m delighted. I had the top two, the Yeovil (Town) one and the Forest Green (Rovers) one, so it was bound to be one of them. It was the Forest Green strike that won it.
“I saw Regan (Linney) breaking down the left and thought I’ve just got to try and make the edge of the box. I ran onto it well and hit it into the far corner, so I’m delighted with it.”
5. Focus Remains on the Next Game, Not the Unbeaten Run
“It doesn’t really play on my mind. It’s going into every game game-by-game and trying to get the three points each time.”
6. Consistency Brings Confidence
“I love playing football, I love being amongst it, getting loads of games under my belt, it’s only going to help me in the future.
“I had a few weeks out with concussion, so I’ve gradually come back into it. In the two games I started on the bench, I came on and scored in both, so it was just about keeping my mentality right and being ready to come on.”
7. Experience in Midfield Is Paying Off
“It’s good playing alongside someone like Alex Gilliead. He’s a good player and a good lad in the changing room, so I’m learning loads from him.”
8. Togetherness Defines This Squad
“It’s a fine place to be. Everyone gets on really well on and off the pitch, so it’s been really enjoyable so far.”
9. Previous Success Breeds Belief
“It’ll be another tough game. We played them a few weeks back, it was competitive, but we beat them, so we know we can go and do that again hopefully.”
10. Preparation Has Been Sharp
“Training was good today, working on different shapes and what have you, so I’m looking forward to it.”
11. Late Kick-Offs Offer Extra Time to Prepare
“We’ve had a few, haven’t we? I prefer three o’clock, but it gives you more time to prepare and recover.
“It can get quite long waiting around, but the lads mess about playing cards, cracking jokes and spending time with each other, so we kill time quite well.”
