Defender Morgan Feeney admitted Carlisle United were left frustrated by the loss at Boreham Wood despite believing there were plenty of positives to take from the Blues' performance.
United pushed the league leaders throughout the contest and created plenty of positive moments, but two avoidable goals ultimately proved costly.
Feeney was particularly frustrated with the manner of the goals conceded, with the defender insisting the finer details must be addressed as United look to respond.
He said: "You can take a lot of positives out of the performance, but we've come away with a defeat through our own mistakes, our own faults.
"It can't happen. We're disappointed. We're all fuming in there, rightly so, because them goals can't happen."
Despite the result, Feeney felt there were clear signs of a desire to play, with the Blues' intensity and pressing causing problems for Boreham Wood during large periods of the game.
The defender believes that approach will become even more effective as the squad continues to develop, while also highlighting the importance of retaining possession to manage the demands of their style.
"That's how we want to play. As you can see, we started very well on the front foot, and maybe we shocked them a little bit.
"I don't think they had an answer for not just the first 10 minutes, but for large parts of the game.
"I felt like we got the press right, they were giving us the ball back."
More than 500 Carlisle supporters made the journey south and provided vocal backing throughout the game, remaining behind the team at the final whistle.
Feeney was keen to thank the travelling support for their commitment and believes the team can repay their backing over the course of the season.
"I think they were brilliant. They got behind us from start to finish.
"They were the 12th man, and they were certainly larger than my home support here.
"You could hear them all game."
