Head Coach Rob Elliot felt Carlisle United's performance deserved more than the defeat at Boreham Wood, encouraged by large parts of his side's display.
United matched the Enterprise National League leaders for long periods, but two goals from balls into the box saw the hosts turn the game around from behind.
While disappointed with the result, Elliot was pleased with the aggression and intensity his side showed throughout the contest.
He said: "Overall performance, very good. Aggressive. We didn't sit back.
"We got after them; maybe the last 10 minutes retired, or they threw players forward. Just really disappointed with the goals we conceded.
"The thing that's really raw is the type of goal, the two goals we've conceded.
"But it's frustrating because the energy we put in, the performance, the aggression we showed, the press and how we stopped their top players was really pleasing."
A key feature of United's display was their pressing game, with Elliot believing his side executed the plan well and prevented Boreham Wood from establishing full control.
Elliot felt the performance showed just how competitive his team can be, but admitted key moments in both penalty areas ultimately proved decisive.
"I thought the press was excellent. We worked on it all week, and the lads brought into it fantastically well.
"From a tactical point of view and the way we pressed and everything, it was superb.
"It's just the moments that let us down, and that's where we're at at this moment in time. It's the moments that are killing us."
Despite the disappointment, Elliot believes his players are continuing to move in the right direction and was quick to praise both their commitment and the backing they received from the travelling support.
More than 500 Blues made the journey to Hertfordshire, and he was grateful for their support throughout the evening.
"I think just amazing again, literally superb again.
"The support they give us, the reception after the game, you know, and I'm so sorry we didn't give them more.
"But I just hope that they do understand and see what we're trying to do and where we're trying to take the club."
