Match Report: Boreham Wood 2-1 Carlisle United

.

Carlisle United fell to a 2-1 defeat against Boreham Wood at the Mangata Developments Stadium.

Stephen Wearne had given the Blues the advantage in the second half, but that was cancelled out by Jay Bird and Zak Brunt's late strikes.

Adam Desbois picked out David Ajiboye on the halfway line, flicked the ball away from a Wood defender, exchanged a one-two with Josh Williams before firing over the bar.

A sharp move from the hosts saw Danny Cashman slip Tarryn Allarakhia down the left channel in the box, and his shot was deflected into Desbois' grasp.

Jack Ellis fired a pass into Ajiboye, who neatly played it to the oncoming Wearne, who hit a ferocious strike from the right of the box which was deflected over.

There was action at both ends within minutes, with Cashman whipping a shot narrowly wide from range before Ajiboye dragged an effort off target.

Williams had the opportunity to attack the box from the right flank, driving forwards before firing high over the bar.

Miguel Azeez's outswinging corner found Georgie Kelly, but he failed to direct his header on target.

The Wood broke quickly despite Ryan Galvin seemingly being fouled off the ball, and Cashman again troubled the United goal but was inaccurate with his shooting.

It was Cashman again who had the chance to give his side the lead, timing his run to perfection and going in one-on-one with Desbois, but the United stopper came out on top, making a comfortable save.

HALF-TIME: Boreham Wood 0-0 Carlisle United

Allarakhia was next to test Desbois, receiving the ball in the penalty area and shooting at goal, but the United keeper pushed the effort wide.

Wearne gave United the lead in the 60th minute, latching onto Azeez's blocked shot, cutting inside and firing into the bottom corner.

Strong hold-up play from Kelly saw him find Luamba, who drove at Chris Bush before teeing up Bunker to strike at goal, but his effort was saved by Luca Gunter.

Brunt found space on the edge of the box to test his luck from range, and Desbois had to be at full stretch to palm it wide.

Bird equalised in the 80th minute, nodding Brunt's clever chipped ball past Desbois.

Brunt then gave the hosts the lead, seeing a corner go straight in at the near post.
