EVERYTHING WE LEARNT FROM ELLIOT EMBLETON: PRE SOLIHULL MOORS (A)

.

Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Solihull Moors, we spoke to Elliot Embleton to reflect on his time at the club, the team’s recent momentum and the challenge that awaits this weekend.

Speaking after Thursday's training session, Embleton discussed the feel-good factor around the squad, his return to fitness and the belief that the group can continue pushing towards their goals.

Here is everything we learnt:

1. Reflecting on his first year at the club

“Last season didn’t go to plan because we wanted to stay in the league and we didn’t manage to do that. But we’re trying to get back up there now and we’re in a good position to do so this year.”

2. A winning feeling around the squad

“It’s good to be part of a group that’s winning regularly. We had a few wins at the back end of last season but they weren’t quite enough. This year we’ve not lost many games and there’s a real winning feeling around the club.”

3. Responding to last weekend’s disappointment

“You want to win every game you play. It was disappointing to go out of the cup, but now we’ve got big games in the league coming up and that’s our main goal - to get out of this league.”

4. New faces settling in quickly

“Ryan Galvin’s trained a few times now and he’s been really good. He’s settled in well and I’m looking forward to seeing him in games.”

5. Back on grass and enjoying preparation

“It was tough when the pitches were frozen and we had to train on the Astro, but it’s been good to be back on the grass this week preparing properly for Solihull. We’re really looking forward to it.”

6. Building league momentum

“Every game is massive when you’re going for three points. Since Christmas we’ve won three league games, scored goals and we’re in a good place - it’s important we keep that run going on Saturday.”

7. Finding rhythm after injury

“It was frustrating getting injured at the start of the season, but I’ve played a few games now and I’m starting to get back up to speed. I’m feeling better with every game and excited for the rest of the season.”

8. Enjoying the midfield diamond

“I’ve not played in a diamond too much, maybe when I was younger, but I enjoy it. You get good numbers around the ball and there’s a lot of freedom going forward, especially playing at the top of it.”

9. Defensive strength giving confidence

“We’re well prepared in terms of how we press and defend. In our last three league games we haven’t conceded a goal, and even last week it was only from a set play. If we keep clean sheets, we won’t be far away because we’ve got really good attacking players.”

10. Boosted by brilliant away support

“The fans have been massive for us, especially away from home. Coming in those numbers makes it feel like a home game sometimes, and hopefully we can repay them with three points at Solihull.”
