Archie Davies spoke to CUTV after United’s 1-1 draw against Solihull Moors last night.
When asked his thoughts on the performance, the right-back said: “A bit disappointing, but saying that, you’ve got to look at the context of the situation. I think there are a lot of boys coming in for their debuts. A lot of boys [that] haven’t featured as much, maybe this season, getting a run out.
“I still thought nine times out of ten, you are going to win that game more than you lose it. So, it’s hard to say when there’s a bit of disappointment, but you’ve got to take some sort of positives out of it.”
Davies came into the starting eleven for his first start of the season, when asked how he found it, he said: “I think it was tough, it is never easy coming into a game like that straight away, but then [again] it’s still a big squad, so there’s going to be rotations, and everyone’s got to make sure they are ready.”
On the first-half, he explained: “I think maybe everyone’s started a bit slow. The thing with us at the moment, maybe, is just we have good moments, but we don’t maybe show that consistently enough, and I think that goes for the second-half as well.
“You see [that with] the goal we give up, obviously it’s unfortunate, but once we just find that little bit more consistency, I think we’ll be fine.”
On what Mark Hughes said to the players at the interval, he said: “We’re still in the game. Similar to the game at the weekend, maybe we didn’t start the game as quick as we would like to, but when we get going, we still had some good moments and good passages of play.
“I think we definitely had a lot more opportunities and shots on goal in the second half. Maybe we could have started a bit better, but all in all, it was ok.”
Bevis Mugabi also came into the Blues’ starting eleven for the clash to make his United debut. When asked about his partnership with Mugabi, Davies expressed: “It’s a new one. I thought he came in for his first ninety minutes, such as myself, I think he did very well. Same with the likes of Sam Murray and Josh Grant getting his first minutes as well.
“I think everyone’s come in now and had their first taste, and now it’s time to kick on.”
On whether performances will improve moving forward, he said: “I think so, but at the same time, we need to improve quickly as well. Now, boys that don’t know the league will get to know.
“A lot of games will be similar to tonight, not-so-pretty, a bit ugly, [lots of] long balls, and once we compete and match them, then we’ll show our quality on the ball.”
Dan Creaney gave the visitors the lead on 67 minutes, when asked on the nature of the goal, he explained: “[It is] disappointing. I think it is just one of those [things], a loose pass. It’s unfortunate, but at the same time, you’ve got to realise these boys are just coming in now, and they’ll get up to speed and they’ll get up to speed quickly.”
On the dressing room atmosphere, the full-back expressed: “It’s a similar sort of vibe in there, maybe to the weekend.
“I think today was [different to Saturday], the way we ended the game [was] very strong. I thought we, I said it before, but I think we win that game seven, eight, nine, ten times out of ten. We’ve just got to finish our chances and get ruthless.”
Finally, when asked what improvements could be made when United travel to Wealdstone on Saturday, Davies said: “Like I said before, it’s just the consistency and switching on from minute one to minute ninety. We showed we have a lot there, we’ve got a lot in the locker, and we’ve still got different options to come on and make an impact as well.”
