UNITED LOAN SHOT-STOPPER

.

Carlisle United are delighted to announce the signing of Archie Mair on loan from Morecambe for the remainder of the campaign.

Mair, 24, arrives at Brunton Park on a temporary deal running until the end of the 2025/26 season, with the agreement also covering any potential involvement in the play-offs.

After beginning his career at Aberdeen, Archie moved south to join Norwich City in the summer of 2019. While contracted to the Canaries, he enjoyed several loan spells, most notably with Notts County. It was at Wembley that he produced one of the standout moments of his career, coming on in the closing stages of the play-off final to make the decisive save in the penalty shootout that secured the Magpies’ return to the EFL.

Since then, Mair has also featured for Gateshead, Morecambe and Motherwell, before returning to the Shrimps on a permanent basis last summer.

At international level, Archie has represented Scotland across three youth age groups, featuring for the under-17s, under-19s and under-21s.

Goalkeeper Coach, Jack Cudworth said: “Archie arrives with strong references from some highly respected goalkeeper coaches within the game. He’s at a great age to continue improving and developing, while already showing the maturity you want in a goalkeeper. His experience of senior football, including appearances at a higher level, will add strength and competition to the goalkeeping group.”

Archie will wear the number 13 shirt during his time at Brunton Park and is eligible for selection against Altrincham this weekend.

This move is subject to ratification from The FA and National League.
