ROB ELLIOT: "THE PLAYERS ARE SETTING THEIR OWN STANDARDS."

.

Head Coach Rob Elliot praised Archie Mair's contribution and the standards within his squad after Carlisle United secured a 1-0 victory over Salford City to book their place in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup.

David Ajiboye's first-half goal proved decisive, while Mair's penalty save and a determined defensive display helped the Blues secure progression against their League Two opponents.

Elliot was particularly pleased for Mair, who took his opportunity in goal after maintaining high standards in training and supporting the group from the sidelines.

"I'm really pleased for Archie because it's a tough gig. I know from experience how difficult it is when you find yourself as number two, especially with how well Adam's been doing.

"But he's trained superbly well. I've spoken to him about his training levels being high and being ready for anything, and he takes it on.

"He's brilliant around the group, and he's a big personality for the lads."

The Head Coach also highlighted the squad's quality, believing the players' standards have been central to the team's recent performances.

"It's the players who are setting their standards.

"The coaching staff work so hard, but the players are setting those standards themselves.

"When that happens, that's when you can achieve something special, as long as we keep those standards."

United will now discover their opponents in the second round on Monday night, with Elliot hoping the Blues can secure a memorable tie and test themselves against top opposition.

"I want a really good draw for the club, whatever that looks like.

"For me, give us the biggest club, home or away. Let's have a great day, and we'll back ourselves and test ourselves again.

"We've had some potentially season-defining moments that we've come through in the last few weeks.

"I'd love for the fans, the players and the staff to be able to go and test ourselves again."
