United made it back-to-back wins to start pre-season after a 3-2 win in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Motherwell.
Rob Elliot's side came back from behind to secure victory, with Regan Linney, David Ajiboye and Seb Mason getting on the scoresheet.
He said: "It was a really good game and exactly what we wanted.
"Another 45 minutes into two different teams and I thought the first group, against what was probably their strongest side, were excellent. We finished that half 1-1, but our pressing was outstanding and we probably could have scored another one or two.
"The second half was excellent as well. We introduced a few academy lads and I thought we were on top for long periods. We got the goals and probably could have added more."
With Motherwell further ahead in their preparations, Elliot was particularly encouraged by his players' performance.
"They're a bit fitter than us because of where they are in their season, so to perform like we did against a team of that quality is really pleasing."
Speaking on United's performance, in particular signs of high-intensity pressing, United's Head Coach said: "That's exactly how we want to play,"
"I'll be honest, we're nowhere near where we need to be yet, but that's just because we've only been together for two weeks.
"To be where we are already is exceptional and the lads deserve a lot of credit for that.
"There's still loads to work on, but we look a real threat with the ball, we've got a good structure and we're dangerous without it as well. That's where we want to be."
The Blues shared the goals around, with Regan Linney, David Ajiboye and Seb Mason finding the net, something Elliot was delighted to see.
"It's definitely pleasing," he said.
"Reegs [Regan Linney] was excellent again. He caused all sorts of problems."
Linney was substituted on 30 minutes after a whack to his right knee in United's half.
"Regan took a knock to his knee, but it's just a whack, so he should be fine."
David Ajiboye equalised for United on 58 minutes with a superbly taken penalty, finding the roof of the net.
"David's penalty was fantastic as well, so now I know he can take penalties!
"Overall, it was a really good performance and exactly the sort of test we needed against a very good side."
Victory on Saturday afternoon at Fir Park extends United's winning run at the start of pre-season, after a convincing victory against Queen of the South on Tuesday afternoon.
"I said to the boys before the game that I wanted us to go there and win.
"Everything we do is about winning football matches and scoring goals, so it's brilliant to see that mentality already."
The afternoon also provided another opportunity for several academy players to impress, with Will Rafferty earning particular praise after a standout second-half display.
"Raf (Will Rafferty) was absolutely fantastic.
"The Academy deserves so much credit. The standards those lads bring into training are incredible. They're fit, they're strong, they're technically very good and they understand the game.
"Some of those boys haven't been with us very long, but they picked up everything straight away. Raf was excellent and Jonah [Lowes] and Seb [Mason] have settled into the first team group really well.
"With the injuries we've had already, it's brilliant to know we've got young players who can step in. It shows the club are doing the right things behind the scenes."
The Head Coach also provided an update on United's injury situation, as several players were unavailable for the clash.
"Morgan Feeney was running and felt his calf. I think he might have, believe it or not, stumbled or tripped when he was running in the off-season and he's felt his calf.
"So, it's going to be a while. It's one we need to take care of.
"Bevis Mugabi is having to load his knee. He's seeing a specialist in a week. He hasn't been able to do anything since the end of the season. He's had issues with his tendon. He's a top pro, a top guy with great experience and it's frustrating for him as well. So, Bevis, we're obviously looking forward to seeing him. We need to see what the specialist says in terms of his knee, but hopefully we'll see him on the grass.
"Hayden Atkinson and Josh Williams as well, both come back injured in the off-season. The lads now want to keep themselves so fit and sharp. It does come with some risk and unfortunately, both of those have had issues with their knee, but we hope to see Josh on the grass next week and Hayden not too far after.
"Stephen Wearne, the same. He had an issue with his hamstring. I don't know if it's grumbling from last year, and then Harvey Macadam, I think he's had an issue with his thigh going on.
"I think the only one we can take blame for is Luke [Armstrong]. Luke's was a freak incident where he blocked the ball in training, he just opened his ankle up. He just blocked the ball, smashed it in from a couple of yards, as you do, so he's going to be a few weeks.
"It's not ideal because of the quality of players we're missing, but I think it also shows the strength of the squad."
"We'll keep assessing whether we need to bring anyone in, but if we do it'll only be someone who represents the club in the right way first and foremost. The recruitment has been really good so far and we'll only add if it's the right fit."
Attention now turns to Friday's trip to Workington, Elliot suggested that the Blues will field a youthful side against their fellow Cumbrians.
"I'm really looking forward to meeting the supporters.
"It'll probably be a lot of academy and younger lads because we want to use this week to focus on training, especially with players coming back from injury.
"I've heard fantastic things about the supporters already. One of the biggest attractions of this football club is the fanbase.
"We were at the commercial breakfast after the fixture release and I've never seen so many people in one room. It just shows how much the community cares about this club.
"I'm looking forward to meeting everyone, and I'm especially looking forward to watching the young lads again because everything I've seen from them so far has been superb."
