MORGAN FEENEY REFLECTS ON ROCHDALE LOSS

/

Following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Rochdale, we spoke to United defender Morgan Feeney.

Speaking to CUTV, he said: “It obviously stings after the result mid-week as well. We were really disappointed with that.

“There was a good bounce in the group to bounce back after a performance in the week.

“Our training has been really good in the week, and I had the vibe going into the game. It was disappointing, it was moments today, they’ve taken the chances.

“We probably didn't get it right first 15 on the pitch or 20 or whatever.

“But ultimately we lost, probably didn't deserve to get much out of it.”

The Blues struggled to create meaningful chances throughout the afternoon, he said: “We had a good chance at the end of the first half, and we had a couple of half-chances as well.

“The chances were still there for us to get back in the game, but the second goal probably kills us more.

“I felt we had a little bit of momentum in the game. Like you say, that knocks the wind out of your sails a little bit.

“Again, even towards the end, we were knocking crosses across, and it just weren't going in for us today. I'm conscious that it's a long season and we've had a good start to the season.

“We'll be working double hard to get back on the pitch and go again mid-week. It's a good group here, so we'll bounce back quick.

On the message from Mark Hughes at half-time, he said: “Like I say, we had that chance on the stroke of half-time.

“Get back out there and keep sticking it on them. Like I say, when the second goal goes in, it kills us a little bit.

“We had a lot of the ball after that and a couple of chances, half-chances and stuff.

“It just felt like it wasn't going to fall to us fully. We still believed we could get back in it, even at 2-0, but it just wasn't to be."

United showed glimpses of resurrecting their chances in the second half through Regan Linney and Junior Luamba, but failed to find the net.

“The pace of Regan (Linney) and Junior (Luamba) down the sides. It was sticking to Georgie well at times. Like I say, we carved a few chances, half-chances out of it.

“On another day, a few shots go in and crosses go in the back of the net. Like I say, it weren't for us today, we need to focus all our energy into mid-week.

“Obviously, we're at home again. Fans get behind us, as they always do, and we'll be all right.”

Speaking on his first 90 minutes since rejoining the club, he said: “Fine, yeah, physically fine.

“It wasn't to get out there, a bit of a stop-start to the season, which was unfortunate. The lads have been brilliant, obviously, while I've been doing my rehab and stuff.

“If I can help out with them anyway, that's what I'll try and do. Unfortunately, today I've come in and it's been a defeat.

“Hopefully, next time we speak, it'll be a happy one.”

Looking forward to the visit of Hartlepool United on Wednesday night, he said: “It's a tough test. Obviously, every game in this league is a tough test.

“We'll just be focusing on getting our bits right. If we do that, our quality will shine through; we've got a good few days to build up for the game.

“We've got an extra day, it's usually a Tuesday, isn't it? We'll be looking at it on Monday. We're going through it and putting it to bed quickly and waiting to go again.”

He continued: “All the noises are right from the lads. It's a dressing room where we'll all share our feelings and stuff.

“We've got that in the group where we can do that with each other. I'm sure we'll do that even more so and reflect on it over the weekend, on Monday when we go through the video and watch it back.

“We'll go through it, put it to bed and get back on the training ground.”
