MEMORY GARDEN SCULPTURE PROJECT LAUNCHED

The Carlisle United Supporters Groups (CUSG) have launched an inspiring initiative: to fund a centre-piece sculpture within the club’s Memory Garden at Brunton Park, Carlisle.

The Memory Garden has become a cherished space for fans, friends, and families to quietly reflect and remember loved ones and former players. With the garden recently expanded to a second level, this project aims to mark the next chapter by installing a sculpture that visually embodies the club and becomes a focal point for collective reflection.

A Message from the Supporters

John Kukuc – Carlisle United Supporters Groups Chair said: “This is a tremendous opportunity for fans to contribute towards something very special. In this garden, memories bloom eternal — where every leaf whispers the names, the cheers, and the legacy of those who made this club more than a game. Forever part of our team, forever rooted in our hearts.”

Collaboration with the University of Cumbria

This is a community-led effort spearheaded by the Carlisle United Supporters Groups, working in partnership with the University of Cumbria, who have been commissioned to design and create the new sculpture.

Paul O’Donohoe and Paul Forsyth – University of Cumbria said: “We have especially enjoyed engaging with the supporters and the Heritage Group, and being able to reflect on the club’s rich heritage, always carried along with the loyalty and enthusiasm of the fans. More than anything, we wanted to create a sculpture that honours the past, but which also looks forward with hope to the glories and successes still to come.”

What’s Being Asked

  • The project aims to raise £2,500 to fund the design and creation of the sculpture.
  • Donations are being accepted through Crowdfunder UK until 1 December 2025.

Why It Matters

  • The Memory Garden already plays an important role for the club’s community, providing a dedicated place of reflection and remembrance.
  • Adding a centre-piece sculpture will deepen its meaning and ensure that every supporter, past and present, remains part of the club’s story.
  • The collaboration with the University of Cumbria celebrates both local creativity and Carlisle United’s enduring heritage.
