Georgie Kelly showed confidence and ruthlessness in front of goal, striking four times as Carlisle United got their pre-season preparations off to a winning start against Queen of the South.
The Irish striker was in fine form, leading the Blues press from the front as well as displaying some sharp finishing which proved to be too much for the Doonhamers to handle.
United's squad have had to adapt to a new style under Head Coach Rob Elliot, which Kelly is finding plays to his strengths.
He said: "It's just to get a good run out. Trying to get the first week, there were actually a lot of ideas, trying to get real detail across, so we're just trying to pick up on the little bits of information that we've been given.
"So it wasn't perfect, but as I said, it's a good run out as well and good for the fitness.
"I think the style and the way Gaffer wants to play, a little bit more direct and energy and crosses, will suit me, hopefully. I think I can score goals and hopefully we have a good year."
With just over a week of training in the bank, the Blues players have had little time to adapt to a new way of playing, but Kelly was keen to praise the detail given by Elliot.
"It's been really, really good. You have to really switch it on because there's a lot of detail every day, every morning, and it's nice. It's really, really good, and I'm excited for the year ahead.
"It's not going to be simple, but again, because we have a good bit of time, a good five, six weeks now to really embed it, and as I said, the first week, the first day we were in, Rob was on it and was giving real detail around what we're trying, what we're looking for.
"Everyone has to kind of be clued in, switched on. So no, you just have to get the grips with it as soon as you can."
Intensity is a big part of the demand Elliot imposes on his teams, and that has been something notable to Kelly in early training sessions.
"You can feel the energy that's demanded. The lads know kind of now what we need, even in fine detail, in possession and out of possession.
"A big part of it is going to be energy and legs and enthusiasm, and thankfully, the lads we have here, personalities, we have that in abundance. So it's going to be a good year, hopefully.
"There's a real good kind of enthusiasm and buzz about the place. People are willing to learn and eager for information; it's looking good."
