EVERYTHING WE LEARNT FROM MORGAN FEENEY: POST YORK CITY (H)

.

After Carlisle United’s 3-0 defeat against York City at Brunton Park, we spoke to captain Morgan Feeney.

Speaking to CUTV, he reflected on a disappointing night, the fine margins that shaped the game, and the squad’s determination to respond positively.

Here is everything we learnt:

1. Disappointment despite a close contest

“Disappointing, obviously gutted in there. We came into it well prepared to go and get the win and I didn't feel like there was a lot in the game, certainly in the first-half.”

2. A cheap goal proved costly early on

“We gave away a really cheap goal from our point of view, but I thought we were well in the game and I didn't think there was a lot in it from either side.”

3. Limited chances at both ends

“Gabe (Breeze) had very little to do and we’ve had a couple of half decent chances. Up until that point I didn’t feel like there was loads in the game.”

4. The penalty shifted the momentum

“The penalty probably takes a little bit of momentum away from us and gives us a bit of an uphill battle. Up until then, it still felt very even.”

5. Belief remained despite falling behind

“We went in at half-time full of confidence. We thought we’d get a goal back and go on and win the game, and we still believed that all the way.”

6. Fine margins made the comeback harder

“One mistake from us gives us that little bit where it’s harder to get back in the game, and then the second goal makes it an even tougher battle.”

7. Encouragement for attacking freedom

“We’ve got creative players and game changers who’ve got the licence to play that final pass. Sometimes it comes off, sometimes it won’t, but we won’t discourage that.”

8. Togetherness and focus on bouncing back

“We’re a good group, we’ll look after each other, dust ourselves off quickly and refocus. We know what we want to achieve this year and we’ll be fully focused going into the weekend.”
