Following the victory over Wealdstone, we spoke to captain Morgan Feeney after another impressive afternoon at the back.
The defender reflected on a dominant team display, another clean sheet and maintaining momentum at the top of the table.
Here is everything we learnt:
1. Buzzing after another big win
“Yeah, buzzing. Top of the league, three clean sheets on the bounce and three wins, so I couldn’t be happier.”
2. Credit to the groundstaff in tough conditions
“It was touch and go in those freezing conditions, so it was brilliant to get the game on. The pitch is always great here and to have it playable in minus temperatures was brilliant.”
3. Another clean sheet and Man of the Match
“I didn’t feel like I had much to do, which is a testament to the lads because we were so dominant. Any of us could’ve got Man of the Match today.”
4. Defensive dominance from the first whistle
“I never felt under pressure at all. They set up in a good shape, but we were in control and caused them problems from the first whistle.”
5. Praise for Luke’s opening goal
“You always know what you’re going to get from Luke. He’ll work his socks off all day and he deserves his goals with the performances he’s been putting in.”
6. Delighted for Aaron Hayden’s goal
“Buzzing for Az. Me and him have both come close recently at that end of the pitch. Hopefully it sets off a chain reaction for us defenders.”
7. Belief in goals from the back
“We don’t set targets, but we go out believing we can score each week. It’s fine margins sometimes, but we work hard on it and want to add more goals.”
8. Patience paying off in possession
“We carved out a lot of chances and could’ve been two or three up at half-time. It wasn’t about lack of opposition, it was total dominance from us.”
9. Enjoying the midfield diamond
“It’s been brilliant. The lads are versatile, work their socks off and that shape has really helped us lately. Whatever shape we play, we can do a job.”
10. Focused on the next challenge
“We just look at the next game. We’re not worrying about games in hand or other teams. We’re top of the league and buzzing, but we’re just ticking the games off as they come.”
