Following a hard-earned away victory, we spoke to Morgan Feeney to discuss the 2-0 win against Aldershot Town.
Speaking to CUTV, Feeney reflected on the challenge of the trip, the team’s response, his goal from a set piece and the backing from the travelling supporters.
Here is everything we learnt:
1. A strong response away from home
“It was important to get another win after a disappointing result on the weekend from taking a good lead. So, tough travel, fans have travelled all that way, and it's good to get the three points on the board and the clean sheet.”
2. Handling a difficult away test
“The pitch was tough, it was soft, and we had a lot of travel in our legs, and it was important to come here and get through the game and win it, and we've done that.”
3. Limiting the opposition
“I thought we limited them to very little clinical chances. If we'd been critical, we probably should have put more away ourselves.”
4. Putting the weekend disappointment right
“We were very disappointed with that on the weekend. We wanted to put that right after the game on Saturday, so to come here and do what we couldn't do then makes it a perfect night for us.”
5. Leading from the back
“My job is to keep a clean sheet, but if I can keep popping up with goals at the other end, then it gives us another threat.”
6. Timing the run for his goal
“He's (Chris Conn-Clarke) put it exactly where he usually does, so I just gambled. I managed to lose my man and ghost in behind him to get the header in.”
7. A threat from set pieces
“My main focus is on keeping clean sheets and winning games, but if we can be a threat at that end as well, then it's great.”
8. Digging in defensively
“There were a few tired legs out there, and we worked hard for that clean sheet. We defended resolutely, and it felt like we really deserved it.”
9. Helping young players develop
“Hayden's (Atkinson) been excellent. He trains how he plays, he wants to learn, and he's a great lad who fits in with the group really well.”
10. Appreciation for the travelling support
“It wasn't easy getting down here on a Tuesday night with all the travel issues. For them to come in those numbers is brilliant, and hopefully we can give them a few more nights like that before the end of the season.”
