EVERYTHING WE LEARNT FROM MARK BIRCH: POST MORECAMBE (H)

,

After Carlisle United fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Morecambe, we spoke to Lead Professional Development Phase Coach Mark Birch.

Speaking to CUTV, he discussed his pride in the overall performance, Sam Worth’s continued brilliance in goal and United chances going into the final two games.

Here’s everything we learnt:

1. The team’s performance

“I’m actually delighted with it.

“For a team today that was so young, I thought we were excellent.”

2. The energy shown in the first-half

“We looked really brave and energetic, especially in the first 30 minutes.

“On another day we would have been a couple goals ahead.”

3. A promising future

“These lads have got a promising future at the football club.

“Because of the youthful squad we selected today, you could really see the leadership of some individuals which helped massively.”

4. Sam Worth’s performance

“He was outstanding today, absolutely magnificent.

“It sums up how good of a season he’s had.”

5. Alex McDonough’s injury

“It looks like an ankle injury from the initial assessment.

“We’ll give him a few days off and see how he recovers.”

6. Keeping the squad fresh for next season

“The main thing now is that we’re not risking anyone, we don’t want to take any injuries into next season.

“It’s important to have an eye on fitness right now.’

7. Finishing the season strongly

“Let’s try and get two wins out of two, while also making sure we have a good pool of players for next year.”
