Ahead of our home clash with Gateshead on Good Friday, we spoke to Chris Conn-Clarke.
Speaking ahead of the game, Conn-Clarke discussed his time at the club so far, the team’s strong form, his recent impact from the bench and the challenge awaiting against Gateshead.
Here is everything we learnt:
Enjoying life at the club
“I’ve enjoyed it, Obviously I’ve had a few niggles and injuries but I’ve enjoyed the whole experience and now we’re coming into the final stages.
“Hopefully we can get it over the line and get the job done.”
Hitting form at the right time
“It’s the business end now and we’ve just been plugging away, taking it game by game and getting as many points as we can.
“We’ve done that and it’s been good so far.”
Impact from the bench
“I was thinking about putting it in the box [against Braintree Town from that late corner which provided the winning goal] but Regan (Linney) came short, I gave it to him and then it’s ended up with Cammy (Cameron Harper) finishing it.
“The gaffer’s been saying the subs need to make an impact and I’ve tried to do that.”
Strong connections in the squad
“Obviously when you’re friends off the pitch it works on the pitch as well.
“I think we’ve got really good link-ups across the team and that helps in moments like that.”
Pleased for Regan’s return to form
“It’s a long season and Regan has come up with the goals all year.
“He’s coming back into form at the right time and it’s good to see him back at his best.”
Positive mood in the group
“It’s cheerful and the sun’s back out which helps.
“We’re composed and ready to get into the play-offs and get the job done.”
Competition driving standards
“There’s always competition.
“The squad is massive and when you get your chances you have to take them.
“It’s competitive in training every day.”
Managing rest and travel
“A few lads have gone home to see their families and the travel is a nightmare at times.
“But the club treat us well, we stay in good hotels and travel properly so they do everything they can to help us.”
Focus on the objective
“Just finish the job and get the club back where it belongs in League Two.
“It’s nice to have the play-offs confirmed but we want to nail down that third spot.”
Preparing for the Gateshead test
“They’re in good form and they’ve got some good players.
“In this league there’s no easy game so we’ll just take it as another one.
“We need to play to our strengths, get the fans behind us and keep that momentum going.”
