Carlisle United are delighted to announce the signing of Miguel Azeez from Morecambe for an undisclosed fee.
Azeez, 23, joins the Blues on a two-year deal, becoming the first addition of the summer and of Head Coach Rob Elliot's tenure.
The Paddington-born midfielder began his football journey at Arsenal, joining the Gunners aged five and signing professional terms in September 2019.
Mikel Arteta gave him his senior debut in a 4-2 win against Dundalk in the UEFA Europa League on December 10 2020, but further first team chances were limited despite impressing at youth level.
Loan spells with Sky Bet Championship sides Portsmouth and Wigan Athletic, as well as UD Ibiza, followed, which saw Azeez gain vital experience in senior football before making a permanent move to Mallorca-based CD Atlético Baleares in February 2024.
He made 14 appearances for Los Balearicos, picking up a goal and an assist, and then departed for the Greek side PAS Giannina in August 2024, where he featured on 15 occasions, scoring once as the Ioannia-based outfit finished third in Super League Greece 2.
A return to England followed, signing for Morecambe on August 24 2025, where his energetic and combative performances shone in a challenging season for the Shrimps, delivering seven goal contributions in 40 appearances and captaining the team on ten occasions.
Azeez has also represented England at youth level, progressing all the way from under-16s to under-20s.
Head Coach, Rob Elliot said: "He's someone that the club have monitored for a while and I've always thought he was a very good player with fantastic athleticism and real technicality.
"The challenge to him is to come here and show the ability that everyone knows he's got, build on last year, and I think he'll be a real good goal threat for us. He can play higher, and he can play deeper in midfield, which gives us real versatility, and it means that he really adds to the squad.
"I think Miguel strengthens that midfield with Callum Whelan and Harvey Macadam, so it puts us in a great position. It's someone who has his best years ahead of him, hopefully developing even more and can be a big part of the club over the next couple of years."
Sporting Director, Marc Tierney added: "Miguel is a player who fits our recruitment profile and is someone we have monitored closely for a considerable period.
"I would like to thank Morecambe for their professionalism throughout our discussions this summer. There was significant interest in Miguel, including from clubs we will be competing against this season, which makes it particularly pleasing that he was as enthusiastic about coming to Brunton Park as we were about bringing him to the club.
"Throughout the recruitment process, there was a clear and shared belief that Miguel's qualities would add real value to the squad. His technical ability, character and potential stood out at every stage, and having met him in person, his drive and determination to maximise his talent only reinforced that view and we are confident he will prove to be an excellent addition and a player our supporters will enjoy watching."
This move is subject to ratification from The FA and National League.
