The Blues’ under-18s return to the Sheepmount tomorrow as they face off against Fleetwood Town in their second match of the Professional Development League Cup. (11am kick-off)
United host the Cod Men on Saturday as both sides look to pick up their first points of the group stage.
Last time out in the competition, United were beaten 3-1 away from home against Preston North End in a match that they just came out the wrong side of.
Talking to CUTV, Professional Development Phase Lead Coach Mark Birch has stressed the importance of the match.
“We really want to win the match; it’s something we had in mind against Rochdale on Tuesday as we rested a couple of players.
“It’s all about the bigger picture, we feel we can really attack this match and hopefully it can kick-start a good run in this competition”, he explained.
The Blues' squad is starting to return to full-strength, several players have returned from injury and suspension, with the situation pleasing Birch.
"It's refreshing to have a big squad to choose from and it can really make a positive impact on results.
"Going into the final 20 or 30 minutes of matches, we can now make changes which can swing a game in our favour", he said.
