Carlisle United’s U18’s fell to a late 2-1 away defeat against Wrexham AFC at Darland High School.
Goals from Sammy Chesworth and Jac Jones cancelled out Lennon Biggs’ own goal in a frustrating afternoon for the Blues.
United started strongly with Tai Bell forcing an early save from Dan O’Keefe, after a high press forced a Wrexham mistake.
The ‘Young Blues’ continued their positive start, as Kian Stuart had an effort cleared off the line after latching onto a long ball from Jack Porter.
A strong start was rewarded in the 22nd minute, as United took the lead through a Biggs own goal, whose attempted clearance ended up in the back of his own net.
Wrexham looked to respond quickly, with Brad Robinson being forced into several saves.
The hosts would find an equaliser not long after, in the 33rd minute, Jones finished from outside of the area past Robinson.
HALF-TIME: Wrexham 1-1 Carlisle United
United started the second half brightly, with Ruben Towers hitting a half-volley just past O’Keefe’s near post.
Wrexham would come into the game in the final third of the match, with Robinson producing a string of top saves to keep the game all-square.
Biggs, who scored the own goal to give United the lead, had a great chance to put his side ahead, but blazed his effort over at the back post.
The Red Dragons took control of the last 15 minutes, with Porter having to produce an excellent defensive clearance off the line to keep the scores level.
The hosts would find a late goal, with Chesworth tapping in to give Wrexham the lead after Umar Nawaz’s effort had been pushed onto the bar by Robinson.
United pushed forward in the final few minutes but were unable to find an equaliser.
