ROB ELLIOT: "WE NEED TO BE A BIT MORE RUTHLESS."

.

Head Coach Rob Elliot was left frustrated that Carlisle United failed to make their chances count after being held to a 1-1 draw at Wealdstone.

David Ajiboye gave the Blues the lead in the first half, before United created several opportunities to extend their advantage after the break.

But a late Aaron Henry free-kick denied Elliot's side all three points, with the Head Coach believing his team needed to be more ruthless in front of goal.

He said: "Disappointing not to get the three points considering the performance second half, the amount of chances. Obviously, we need to put the game to bed second half.

"If we do that, if we take one of the many chances, the game's done, and we win, and then obviously, if you don't, you leave yourself susceptible to something like that.

"It's an incredible free kick, and Wealdstone get the point because probably we need to be a bit more ruthless."

United picked up after the interval and created many opportunities to put the contest beyond their hosts.

And Elliot was encouraged by his side's second-half response, but knows the Blues need to start turning those chances into goals.

"I think that the positives are that we reacted really well second half; the substitutes come on, really changed the game, gave us good energy and opportunity.

"And I think if we take them chances, you know, the game's a lot easier to manage. But look, it's a point away from home.

"We need to go and back it up on Monday by getting three points and hopefully giving ourselves a good opportunity to stay unbeaten and kick on."

Elliot was also pleased with the impact of Junior Luamba, who returned to the squad and provided fresh energy from the bench.

The United boss believes the forward can provide another dimension to his attacking options as the season progresses.

"What I love about Junior is he works so hard. You know, he's good off both flanks. He can play through the middle, and he's still young.

"He's got loads of development there. So it's just great to have that option, to have him with us.

"And, you know, looking forward to watching him on the pitch and I'm sure he'll add to us and give us another dimension and keeps that energy and that quality in the final third."
