After his brace in United’s 3-3 draw with Boreham Wood, we spoke to Regan Linney.
Speaking about the game to CUTV, he said: “To go 3-1 up at home, we should be winning that. All the boys are really disappointed in there. We came out with a point to prove in the second half, and got a few goals up, so yeah, the boys are disappointed with that.”
Assessing the first half, the attacker explained: “It was tough. I think it took us a while to get going, and to be honest, it shouldn’t have. We should have been out of the blocks straight away, so all the boys were disappointed at half-time, but we started really well [in the] second half.”
United started the second half with intent, and when asked about what Mark Hughes and the coaching staff said at the interval, Linney said: “We needed to sort it out ourselves really. We should be playing better at home regardless, we should be playing better away. We should be proving [ourselves] in front of the fans. The gaffer was on us at half-time and we started really well but couldn’t get the job done.”
When asked how the squad will be looking to respond on Tuesday night, when United host Solihull Moors, Regan explained: “It feels like a loss. All the boys are really gutted in there, so we’ve got to make sure we get the win in the next few days [against Solihull Moors].”
Linney has formed a bond with the fans from the off at Brunton Park. On the fans, he said: “Thank you very much for coming out in your numbers. Stick with us, it’s a long season, and hopefully we win more than we lose.”
Regan opened his competitive account for United to put the Blues ahead on 53 minutes.
“It’s special scoring your first goal for the club, especially in the league. It was a special feeling and hopefully I can do it many more times.”
Linney doubled his tally and United’s lead on 71 minutes in spectacular fashion.
“I fancy myself in those situations [and] them positions. I tried my luck and luckily it went right in the top corner. I like being in those positions, and hopefully I can get many more.”
Georgie Kelly’s goal on 49 minutes restored parity for the Cumbrians, when asked about his link-up with Kelly, Regan said: “Georgie changed the game. I think when he came on at half-time, it gave us something different, and we could all work around him. I went into a different kind of role, and I enjoyed it. I like playing with either of them [Kelly and Luke Armstrong].”
When asked what response United fans could expect on Tuesday, Linney explained: “We’ve got to start fast. It took us a while to get going and start fast, and hopefully we can get the job done.”
