Carlisle United were held to a 2-2 draw against a resilient Morecambe at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.
Gwion Edwards opened the scoring for the Shrimps before the Blues responded through David Ajiboye and Regan Linney to take the lead, but a late Harvey Macadam’s own goal saw the game end level.
Mark Hughes made two changes from the 0-0 draw with Gateshead on Friday, seeing Georgie Kelly and Ryan Galvin come in for Cameron Harper and Hugh Parker.
The Shrimps exerted early pressure with Chris Popov escaping down the left and having a low shot blocked by Gabe Breeze.
Ajiboye broke away on the right wing for the Blues and fed Macadam, who fired high over the bar with an awkward bobble, skewing the strike.
Linney bustled past Lewis Payne inside the hosts’ half and drove at goal before sending a rasping shot wide.
Jim Bentley’s side took the lead in the 32nd minute when Edwards received the ball inside the penalty area and sent a scorching effort past Breeze.
United attempted to respond; Linney drove across the Morecambe defence before a ricochet allowed him to get a shot off on his left foot, but it flew high over the crossbar.
The Shrimps were taking the game to United, with Harlee Dean nodding Miguel Azeez’s free-kick delivery off target before Popov was allowed to take the ball down his chest in the box and drag a shot wide.
Stephen Wearne found Kelly inside the penalty area with a flighted pass, which the Blues striker volleyed over the bar.
HALF-TIME: Morecambe 1-0 Carlisle United
Azeez created space on the edge of the box with quick feet before shooting over Breeze’s bar as the Shrimps tried to start the second half strongly.
United levelled in the 48th minute through Linney after Ajiboye got onto a loose ball in the Shrimps penalty area, who set the ball to the Blues attacker to fire into the bottom corner.
Direct running from Ajiboye saw the ball find its way to Linney, who sent a dipping shot over the bar from range.
Ajiboye gave the Blues the lead in the 68th minute, accelerating onto Breeze’s pinpoint kick forward before outpacing George Thomas and going past Myles Boney to pass into the back of the net.
Edwards gave Breeze a scare when his shot was deflected on goal, but the Blues’ keeper managed to react quickly to gather.
Charlie Wyke nearly made an impact off the bench, meeting Davies’ header, but he glanced the effort just wide.
Morecambe were level in the 82nd minute when a scramble in the United penalty area saw Macadam backpedalling towards his own goal, and he was unfortunate to head the ball backwards over Breeze into his own net.
United countered quickly through Linney, who found Ajiboye; he, in turn, laid off Wearne, but Boney was a match for his shot.
The Blues had more opportunities on the counterattack with Wyke at the heart of the attacking moves, but they failed to find a winner.
