United striker Luke Armstrong spoke to CUTV after his goal secured a 1-0 win against Wealdstone at Grosvenor Vale.
Speaking on a solid away victory, he said: “I thought we started off really well first half. We got our goal, and we caused lots of problems.
“I think the only disappointment is we could have come away with a few more goals.
“But yeah, first half was really good, second half was a little bit different. We had to contain them a little bit more, and they've got some good players to be fair.
“They have a good style of play that seemed to work for them, and we contained that well.
“Left them with a few chances, and it was a professional performance to come away with three points.”
Luke had a goal ruled out early on in the contest, he said: “Yeah, it was a foul on the keeper.
“The ref said he's just had a hand on it and that's under control. It's one of them, it's probably a 50-50, but thankfully in the end it didn't matter.
“No, I haven't seen it back yet, no.”
On the game in general, he said: “First half we caused them a lot of problems, we were getting balls down the side and the lads were linking up really well.
“We were really high energy, the press was working really well. Second half was a little bit different; they took the game to us a little bit more.
“We contained them well and left them with a few chances. They still did have a few; there were a few little nervy moments, but the main thing is we came away with the three points.
“I think a big thing to pick out from that performance, especially in the first half, was the press.
“Everyone was on it, everyone was non-stop.”
United used a high press to great effect, he said: “Definitely, we want to be a high-pressing, high-energy team, and that's what we were. We can bring players in; Stephen Wearne came in, Junior (Luamba) came in, and the energy they brought was brilliant.
“That's what we've got throughout the squad, we've got real high energy, and that's what we want to be all about this season.
“The fact that we've got the likes of David (Ajiboye), the likes of Whelo (Callum Whelan), who can come off the bench and help us through that, is brilliant as well. Yeah, we've got a really strong bench, and when the lads are coming on, we're in good hands.
“They always come on and make a difference for us, which every single sub I thought did when they came on.”
Luke scored his goal from a clever near-post header, something the team had worked on, he said: “Gav (Skelton) goes through it with us and we have a few different ones and we thought this is the one that feels right.
“We'll set up this and get across the front, and it worked out perfectly.
“The ball in from Archie was unbelievable, and my eyes lit up, and as it was coming in, I thought I've just got to get a good contact, and thankfully I did.
On how he felt as the ball hit the net in the 19th minute, he said: “It's brilliant, it's always brilliant to get a goal and even better to finish it with three points today.
The Blues were committed in their defending and showed great resilience to get a clean sheet, he said: “I think it was a full team performance. Everyone played their part, and everyone did their job really well.
“We attacked really well, got our goal, and as I say, the only disappointment is we probably could have scored a few more.
“But the lads at the back were brilliant and kept us in it, including Gabe (Breeze), who obviously made some great saves as well.”
Manager Mark Hughes was absent from the touchline due to a prior, long-standing family commitment: “Obviously a different one, but he had his family commitments, and we just wanted to go out there and make it even more special for him and get the three points.
Hopefully, he's having a great time right now, and we've made that even better for him.”
On the full-time scenes in the away end, he said: “Yeah, it's brilliant. They've stuck with me, and they deserve a good season, and that's what we want to give them.
“It started here again by getting that three points, and it's a really special feeling, that connection with the fans.”
On Monday’s game against Braintree Town, he said: “It's a quick turnaround and it's going to be another tough game where we're going to have to be at our best and we're going to have to produce that high energy.
“It's not long until the next game, but we've got a big squad and we've got a quality squad.
“We're hoping the people that come in bring the energy that we need, and we want to get that first three points at Brunton Park because it'll be massive for us.
“It's all about momentum in this league, and where we want to finish is in a promotion spot.
“It's massive to get that three points and try and keep that momentum going. If we can go again on Monday and get Brunton Park bouncing, it'll be huge for us.”
