Ahead of our return to Brunton Park tomorrow afternoon, we spoke to Luke Armstrong.
Speaking to CUTV, firstly on the facial injury picked up last weekend at Woking, he said: "I've recovered fine from it. Obviously, it was a bit raw to start off with. Had everything checked. I was lucky in the end, haven't had any damage to my eyes or teeth. So, yeah, recovered well, feeling good.
"Obviously, seeing the ball bouncing around in the box, and I thought, oh, I've got myself a nice little goal here. The next thing you know, see a boot in my face. And then, yeah, just a lot of pain after that.
"It was a tough one to deal with, but I got through the end of it. And yeah, luckily, we've come out with a win and two goals."
Assessing the content against Woking, Luke stated: "It was a good test because they're a good side, but we started fast, which is what we wanted to do. Started the first 20, 25 minutes really well, I thought. Executed our game plan exactly what we wanted to do on and off the ball.
"We then lost our way a little bit. The game slowed, but we're under no real threat. We've done well to deal with their threats. And yeah, second-half, we got going again. And once we got the goals, we managed the game really well."
When asked how it felt to net our opening goal of the campaign, he said: "It was brilliant. Obviously, that's what I was brought in to do, to score goals.
"It's great to get it in the first game of the season. It's what you want to do. It takes a little bit of pressure off. And yeah, I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season after the start we've had.
"As you do as a striker, you just want to get it across goal. And it went exactly how I wanted it to, just drive it right across the other side. And yeah, it was a great ball from Jellis (Jack Ellis) because if you can play a pass through like that and I can have a shot first time, then that's exactly what you want as a striker - it was a perfect pass."
Speaking on his celebrations, sprinting towards the 1,000+ travelling contingent, Armstrong said: "It was brilliant and they were brilliant all game.
"I had to be a little bit patient because we could have got a few goals in the first-half. But yeah, it was a big relief and you could see how much it meant to everyone on the side. So yeah, a really good moment.
On 81 minutes, Ethan Robson buried a free-kick from the edge of the area to double our advantage and confirm the three points.
"It was brilliant from him. We know he's got that in the locker and he stepped up to it and the free-kick is unbelievable.
"I'd say that's the quality we've got in this squad and that's the quality that Ethan has."
Touching on working with Mark Hughes, Luke said: "I really enjoy it.I feel like the way he wants to play is exactly how I want to play. He understands strikers and he's got us playing to our strengths at the minute, I feel. So yeah, it's been brilliant to come back here and play a style of football that I really enjoy.
"t's great when the manager believes in you like he does, especially someone of his calibre. I was dying to get back to work with him and I've enjoyed every day since I've come back in."
Look ahead to tomorrow's contest against Boreham Wood, Luke explained: "The mood's really good in the camp, everyone's driving the standards and the training quality's been really good. So we want to take that into Saturday, in front of all the home fans.
"We want to get off to a good start [at home], we know there's going to be a good crowd and we want to give all the fans something to cheer about, so hopefully we can do that as soon as possible.
"It's always a tough test against them, I've played against them many times. They're normally big physical, hard to break down sides, so we're going to have to be patient and be really clinical when we get our chances.
"Every game you go into as a striker you want to score a goal, you want to impact the game and that's what I want to do again.
Explaining his relationship with Regan Linney so far, he said: "It's been really good, he's been a breath of fresh air.
"He brings so much energy and I think that's what we've got up top now, we've got a lot of energy, we've got a lot of willing runners in behind and yeah, it's only going to go from strength-to-strength and I've really enjoyed working with him. He makes a lot of runs in behind, he mixes it up really well and he's really creative, so as a striker he's great to play alongside."
Ending with a message to United's supporters, Armstrong said: "We're just excited to see everyone again and hopefully this is the season where we can get the place bouncing."
