KENTON RICHARDSON: "WE NEED TO BUILD THAT HABIT OF WINNING."

.

Kenton Richardson says Carlisle United must make Brunton Park a fortress as the Blues prepare to face Tamworth in the Emirates FA Cup this weekend.

The Blues head into the tie following a draw with Kidderminster Harriers, with Richardson reflecting on a performance that lacked the tempo needed to excite the home supporters.

Despite taking two wins and a draw from their last three games, Richardson believes United must turn more of their performances into victories as they look to achieve their promotion ambitions.

He said: "I think the bottom line that we all came to was that it was really slow.

"There was no tempo to the game, and we obviously want to excite the fans.

"We need to give them something to really get behind, and we didn't really do it, albeit getting a clean sheet is always good because we haven't had too many of those."

Richardson believes the team must become more ruthless in both boxes, particularly when opponents arrive at Brunton Park looking to frustrate the Blues.

"You've seen a lot of the games; we have got into those positions and created a lot of chances, but we haven't been clinical and ruthless enough.

"And then defensively, obviously two clean sheets, that's obviously not good enough.

"So for us as units, defensive units, attacking units, we've all looked at it and we've been working on it in training."

The Emirates FA Cup presents an opportunity to respond, with Richardson eager to help United progress and build momentum for the remainder of the campaign.

"We need to make this place a fortress; we need to make it horrible for teams to come.”

"For us, it's massive to get into those good habits of winning. Like I said, the two wins and a draw, on reflection, it's okay, but we want to be winning.

"That's what we need to build. We need to build that habit of winning."
