Carlisle United are delighted to announce that Jacob Blain will take on the role of Recruitment Lead.

Jacob has been an important part of the club’s recruitment operation and will now step up to lead the department following Martin Foyle's departure.

He has played a key role in the club’s recruitment work over recent months, contributing to several successful additions to the squad as the Blues continue to build for both the present and the longer term.

Jacob’s appointment provides continuity within the department and represents a natural progression after more than six years with the club.

A Sports Science with Coaching graduate from Northumbria University, he joined Carlisle United as a First Team Analyst in 2019 and has since worked across first-team analysis, academy recruitment and, most recently, senior recruitment.

He previously gained experience in performance analysis with Middlesbrough, Newcastle United and Opta, and has developed an extensive knowledge of the club’s recruitment model, playing philosophy and player market during his time at Brunton Park.

Jacob Blain, Recruitment Lead, said: "It’s a brilliant opportunity for me and one I’m really excited to take on.

"I’ve really enjoyed being part of the recruitment process here and working closely with Marc, Rob and the wider football staff.

"We’ve got a clear idea of the type of players and people we want to bring to Carlisle United, and the challenge now is to keep improving the squad and make sure the recruitment process continues to develop."

Marc Tierney, Sporting Director, said: "We are delighted to appoint Jacob Blain as our Recruitment Lead, recognising the excellent work and progress he has made in his current position.

"Jacob has demonstrated a strong understanding of our recruitment strategy and the player profiles we have established.

"He has consistently identified and assessed talent in line with the needs of the squad, making a valuable contribution to our recruitment process.

"In his new role, Jacob will take on greater responsibility for leading and developing the recruitment process.

"Working closely with everyone involved, he will help identify opportunities to further strengthen and improve the squad, while ensuring our recruitment activity remains closely aligned with the club’s strategy and established player profiles.

"This promotion reflects the progress Jacob has made and the trust he has earned through his work. It recognises his ability to continue playing an important role in strengthening the squad and supporting the club’s ongoing recruitment strategy."

Tom Lawrence, Chief Executive Officer, said: "Recruitment is a hugely important area of the football club and we’re delighted to give Jacob the opportunity to step up and lead it.

"One of our priorities is to develop talented people within the club wherever we can, and Jacob has earned this opportunity through the quality of his work and the contribution he has already made.

"We believe there is a strong structure in place across the football department, and Jacob’s appointment is another important part of that."
