JACK ELLIS PREVIEWS SUTTON UNITED CLASH

/

Ahead of tomorrow's trip to face Sutton United, we spoke to Jack Ellis.

Speaking to CUTV, Jack said: "It was really nice [to score my first senior goal at Brunton Park], obviously got one last year away but it was nice to get one at home in front of the big crowd and nice to have my family here as well, so it was really good."

On the transition to midfield, Ellis stated: "It's been good, like I say it's a new position, I've enjoyed it, it's something we tried in pre-season briefly and obviously started the first two games at right-back and then obviously now gone back, so yeah it's been good.

"I've had good people around me to give me some good information and I've just kind of took it in my stride really.

"Callum Whelan and Josh Grant have been helping me a lot, even the lads who haven't maybe got as much minutes as they like, they've all just been helping, so yeah it's been really good."

When questioned when the decision behind moving to midfield first came around, Jack said: "They spoke to me briefly in Wales whilst we were there, just about trying me there in training and I did all right there, so I think then we had a couple of pre-season games where I'd done all right,  I think they've just thought to give it a go in the competitive games and it's been good."

Ellis was one of several features to play in two matches in three days against Wealdstone and Braintree Town. Talking on the physical demand and how he's feeling, Ellis said: "It was tiring, but I think the way we controlled the game on Monday, we could kind of conserve a bit of energy, but yeah it was tough mentally before the game, not knowing whether or not we were going to play and then find out you're playing and then you've got to get yourself up for it again."

The Blues returned to Brunton Park at around 2am following their victory at Grosvenor Vale, speaking on the following day's schedule, he explained: "I think we were in at 10 [on the Sunday], so it was obviously a quick turnaround, but with the win away at Wealdstone and the way we played that day, I thought we were excellent, controlled the game, really professional performance, so the spirit was high when we come in in the morning, so everyone was just happy to be there ready for another game the next day.

"It was more about recovery and then the lads who maybe didn't play so much minutes, they stayed sharp in training, so yeah just about getting us ready for the game the next day, but yeah it was good."

Monday's statement win set a marker for United, and that thought was echoed inside the dressing room.

"I think the gaffer mentioned we've set the level we want to stay at now and that's the aim, we've got to try and play like that every single game, we want to make it horrible for teams to come here, obviously I think the first two home games we probably deserved a bit more from the games, but for whatever reason we didn't, but now we really want to push on and get that home form really good and obviously on the road as well we want to be solid."

Looking ahead to our trip to the VBS Community Stadium, Jack said: "It's going to be tough, another long away day but you know we're all ready for it, we've had a good day training today and then we'll get on the way down there but yeah we're all looking forward to another away game."

"Today straight away in training the standards are so high again we don't want to get carried away with just one result, so yeah, it's just about like I say keeping standards, we've got to make sure that we're bang at it every single day and a fast start on Saturday and I don't see why we can't have another result."

Finally on the travelling support, Ellis said: "It's massive like obviously even the last two years it's been so good and they've continued the support, it's been amazing.

"We've seen at Wealdstone it was massive for us and Woking as well, really good support, so yeah, it'll be nice to see them all down there and hopefully we can get a win."
