EVERYTHING WE LEARNT FROM MARK BIRCH: POST GRIMSBY TOWN (A)

/

After Carlisle United’s under-18s rounded off the 2025/26 season with a 2-0 win over Grimsby Town, we caught up with Lead Professional Development Phase Coach Mark Birch.

He discussed his pride in the performance, his view on the season, and the quality of Jonah Lowes.

Here’s everything we learnt:

1. An impressive victory

“That performance epitomises everything the lads have done this season.

“I thought we were outstanding from start to finish.”

2. Showing energy away from home

“I saw so much enthusiasm today, and a real willingness to run.

“It’s the high standards that we are always trying to keep at the club.”

3. Defensive solidity

“You couldn’t tell that we only had one fit centre-half this afternoon.

“Everyone who filled in should be so proud of themselves.

4. Jonah Lowes’ quality

“He was excellent both on and off the ball.

“Huge respect to him for playing today after what has been an excellent season for Darlington.”

5. A positive season

“It’s been fantastic and it shows what a bright future we have as a club.

“They’re a great set of lads.”

6. Key staff behind the scenes

“Everyone involved has been sensational and have given everything.

“They’re as good as you’ll find anywhere."

7. The under-16s winning the EFL Youth Alliance North title

“What an achievement that is.

“It gives us real confidence moving forward with that group of players.”
